I'm trying to set up a network with a Blueyonder BB conection. But I just cannot get the router to to connect to the web. Hardware is as follows Cable IN--> Webstar modem --> Sitecom DC-200 Router --> LAN I've tryed turning everything off and switching it on (modem-router-PC) similar to NTL setup. The routers MAC address is registered with Blueyonder but it just wont pick up an IP address. The WAN connection on the router has 2 settings, Direct Connection & PPPoE, I think it should be set to Direct connect & to obtain an IP address automatically. I just can't see why it wont work Any help would be mucho apreciated. G
What you've done sounds fine. Maybe blueyonder take a while for the new MAC settings to take effect? My setup is virtually identical... Oh, and welcome to bit-tech mate
Try powercycling modem and router, sometimes my modem wont give an ip to my smoothwall till it is restarted...
Thanks. It's going to be next weekend before i get to try again (its in Liverpool), but i do know the MAC was registered before Xmas. Are you assigned a fixed IP address or is it dynamic.
Good point Kermet, I remember that I needed to hard reset / power the whole modem off before it wanted to say hello to the router. It's supposed to be dynamic but it seems to vary. I've had the same BY IP for months! Instead of registering the MAC addr of the router, on my router I spoof the MAC of the NIC in one of my boxes... perhaps you could try that? Just another random idea.
I'm on blueyonder and every now and then the Motorola cable modem needs unplugging for a few secs as it seems to lose its connection to the net. It just returns an IP address of 0.0.0.0 to the router, and trying to renew it doesnt work. Maybe a similar glitch with your cable modem?
I did consider cloning the MAC address but the router doesn't support it, would have been a lot easier then. The router having a 0.0.0.0 IP address is exactly what i'm getting. Just a thought but should the cable from the modem to the router be a cross over or a straight through.
is the routers MAC address registered with blueyonder? as if it isnt you cant connect. Cloning will get you round this problem but as you cant, you will need to log into your router, find the MAC address then register it.
do you know the configuration ip for your modem? I use a scientific atlanta modem with BY and sometimes i have lost the downstream signal causing me to have no ip or internet access. The solution was to simply reset the downstram signal to 331000000 hz and reboot the modem. my ip for the modem is 192.168.100.1 but i think yours might be different.
blueyonder i have blueyonder broadband running a SMC 8 port router, first of all when the blueyonder guy installs the BB he phones up blueyonder and registers the computer he installed the broadband on, and gives blueyonder your computer mac addy to verify that its you who is using thats account and stuff. you will have to go to the blueyonder selfcare website and register the mac address of your router (should have a wee sticker on it somewhere) then that will allow access to the internet. Or you could clone the original mac addy as the guy said up there. http://selfcare.blueyonder.co.uk -GrimReaper
