Just got a new tattoo done and getting another this Friday i'll share too. Please post any body mods or tattoos you want to show. My second Tattoo
The way i like to think about tattoo's is; Think back ten years ago, about a picture you drew then and thought was cool ( in my case i was 11 ) now, is that picture still 'cool' to you now? Most likely not, and you wouldnt want that on your body would you really? But then again, how many people have tattoos of something they have drawn, usually its symbolic, tribal, foreign letters etc. In short, i'd think i would like one, but i wouldn't want it when im older.
The thing about tattoos (well, for people who think before they get them) is that they remind you of times, events or people in your life you DONT want to forget or reflect parts of your personality, your beliefs or superstitions. I got my first a few months back for my 21st birthday, the art itself doesn't mean anything relevant, but in 20-30 years time it will remind me of when I was 21. A rather poor picture of mine after the skull was shaded in (looks a little misshapen because of how I have my arm):
+1! Besides, tattooing symbols could turn a bit nasty. Symbols tend to change its meaning from time to time. Just look at the swastika...
It's not as simple as "drawing a picture" though, is it. The best kind of tattoos, in my opinion, are tattoos that have some specific meaning for the person that gets them done. Things like reminding them of a specific time in their lives, a person, or an event that happened to them. In my view as long as it's in a place where you can cover it if you want to, you can't go too far wrong. Obviously this doesn't include a tattoo which says "Kevin and Tracey forever" in honour of your girlfriend of 2 months (unless you get it in Chinese ). They don't have to be overt, it's all about what they mean to you. Also, there's always coverups if you change your mind about a tattoo - there's some guys out there doing absolutely incredible stuff. I like the look of the guys at Inka Tattoos.
Lifestyles change too. My first tattoo was: H. A. M. C. - in the proper Hell's Angel font style Society Sucks - in very nice cursive writing. Many years late I became a manager at Bell Telephone Laboratories. My lady/wife Marilyn didn't think it appropriate and designed a Bald eagle's head that covered the original with the neck feathers. Some things change. John
That's pretty much correct, i'm 30 now and that tat i show in the first pic represents somthing i have followed and loved sinse i was 14. the next one i get this friday will be just as significant to me but alot more detail in it so i'm shitting myself hopng it comes out good. i also got one when i was 18 that was just a random black skull i designed n i love it still today at 30. the dude who said he wouldn't get a tat n disagreees with them for that reason is prolly sexualy confused...
Yup, i once went round to mister tads house and he got me drunk, he kicked me out after i made sexual advances on him Damn this confusion! Sarcasm aside, i did say in my post that its not usually something that is drawn, but something symbolic so you know, it means something to the owner, i also said i don't disagree, but i wouldnt have one personally.
Dudes, let's keep this thread clean of the pros/cons of tattoos and let people who have ink show it off We can have another thread for tattoo discussion if we want
