Peter F Hamilton starting with Pandora's star (He has done 2 trilogies set in the same "world") not bad books.
'A Song of Ice and Fire' by George RR Martin, FANTASTIC series The Riftwar Saga, Riftwar Legacy, Legends of the Riftwar by Raymond E Feist
+1 Also, for something a little lighter, how about Larklight, Starcross & Mothstorm by Philip Reeve (genre = "junior" steampunk)
The Adversary Cycle by F. Paul Wilson. Great set of 6 books. Has a lot of elements in it: supernatural, scifi, horror, fantasy...
Any of the Bill the Galatic Hero novels by Harry Harrison And the Mission Earth series from L Ron Hubbard
Snow Crash - Neal Stephenson Eon - Greg Bear Sprawl Trilogy - William Gibson * Neuromancer * Count Zero * Mona Lisa Overdrive Night's Dawn Trilogy - Peter F. Hamilton * The Reality Dysfunction * The Neutronium Alchemist * The Naked God Hope not.
"A Second Chance At Eden" by Peter F. Hamilton "Blind Faith" by Ben Elton "Popcorn" by Ben Elton "Dune / Dune Messiah / Children of Dune" by Frank Herbert "The Genevieve Trilogy" by Jack Yeovil AKA Kim Newman And the only other books I'd recommend are graphic novels, which would be "Watchmen" by Alan Moore, and "V for Vendetta" also by Alan Moore. Nation by Terry Pratchett is another good book, but in general anything by Peter F. Hamilton, Frank Herbert, and Ben Elton is all good. Joe
DAVID EDDINGS the belgariad, malloreon also the two prequels. consists of 12 books, if your into fantasy, brace for epic.
+1 Also No Country For Old Men (same author). Just finished them both, brilliant writer. For an actual sci-fi suggestion, 2nd Variety by Philip K Dick. Amazing.
Pretty much anything by Peter F Hamilton. Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. Excellent book, just wish he'd hurry up and get the next one out. Richard K Morgan's Kovack books (Altered Carbon, Broken Angels & Woken Furies). His first stab at Fantasy (The Steel Remains) is worth a look, mainly due to how different it is to other fantasy fair. Also thoroughly enjoyed the first collected book of Queen & County by Greg Ruka. Mrs Goo is currently devouring it. http://www.peterfhamilton.co.uk/ http://www.patrickrothfuss.com/content/index.asp http://www.richardkmorgan.com/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_&_Country
Eddings is OK, but he's a one trick pony. He's only got one story, and he just repeats it with different characters.
Forgot about the Wheel of Time series too. Never finished it but the first 6 are sweet =D Take ya a good month or two to boot.
This! Also; - The Player of Games (Iain M. Banks) - well, pretty much all books by him except Feersum Endjinn (I just couldn't handle the intentional misspellings). - Everything by Alastair Reynolds - The Manifold Series by Stephen Baxter - Destiny's Children series by Stephen Baxter - The Takeshi Kovacks novels by Richard Morgan (Altered Carbon, Broken Angel, Woken Furies) - Pandora's Star, Judas Unchained by Peter F. Hamilton
H.P. Lovecraft Omnibus 1-3 Stephen King - The Dark Tower series (1-7) Orwell - Animal Farm and 1984 That series of horror books in neon color... god, read it while I lived in Bath. What the hell was it called? It's a series of 8 books, black background with neon pictures on them. Will post later once I found out what it was called. //edit: They look like this: And the publisher is Orion Books. Other books in the series include work by Stephen King, Poppy Z. Brite and others.
+1 for Trudi Canavan’s BMT which is great, not world altering but a good easy read in which you do get caught up in the story, her age of the 5 series is a little bit more complex and I like the fact it tells the story from both sides of the problem, once again she hasn’t redefined anything but is still a good read. Something from my younger years which I picked up again recently to reminisce (however ended up enjoying them) are the Last vampire series by Christopher Pike and Sati (same author) ok not even close to complex reading as they are aimed at the teenage audience but I still enjoyed them both Another thought would be the innocent mage and awakened mage by Karen miller, not much ‘action’ but for some reason I really got attached to the main character and really wanted to know how his story ended.
Books of blood - Clive barker Flesh and Blood - Graham Masterson kinda on the more horror style fantasy but still really good books, Barker has a sick and twisted mind and his description is awesome.
