Well, I have now sent off for my provisional licence, and today I booked my c.b.t which cost me £85 and £35 for the licence. My test is on the 29th November at 8:30 in the morning.

Now all I need to do if find me a scoot.

    :)

Don't worry about the CBT, if you can ride a pushbike you'll pass.

When you get your scoot, ride defensively. If you think people can't pass you without causing you danger, don't let them.

I like this idea, it makes sense as people will try and overtake you even if there is no need to ust because you are on a moped.

Yup. I rode a moped for a year, was forced off the road by a fuel tanker once because he decided he'd overtake me on a sharp bend . There's no reason why you shouldn't ride in the centre of the road if you feel it's not safe for people to overtake.

"forced off the road by a fuel tanker" :eeek: Were you hurt?

Was your ped derestricted? What was it?

I had to ride on the mud by the side of the carriageway for a few metres otherwise he would have hit me.

I had a Derbi Predator 50cc. You can't realistically ride a restricted moped, it's just too dangerous.

You can see why the car drivers got so wound up now though? If I'm stuck behind a scooter I can't overtake it enfuriates me no end. There's no better way to get around at 16 though :).

I can't decide on what ped to get. I was really in love with the gilera DNA. But then a friend got one, and I rode it round the carpark the other day and it was sweet. But I don't want to copy.

My parents are trying to get me to get a piaggio zip, but I don't know I was after something that didn't look like a moped.

    Any Ideas?

DON'T get one of those bike look-a-likes. People will laugh. There's nothing shameful about owning a "normal" 'ped. Speedfight 2 is the benchmark, the Zip is supposed to pretty reasonable too though.

just googling at the moment, and I will post some pics of what I find. My problem is though that I don't like normal peds much. All I can find that I like is the Italjet Formula 50 but this is £2500 new at localish dealer :hehe:

    Is this a derbi predator?

    How much was your insurance?

do you not find that the "Senda R" and "GPR 50R" are just more appealing? found here

I know you said not to get a non-normal scoot, but I have an excuse. I live in the country so I need the better handeling and brakes. *nods*

Yep that's a predator. Mine. Mine had disk brakes all round so it could stop on a 2p piece - getting into a car was quite a shock. It has superbike inspired suspension which really isn't a gimmick, it corner superbly..... until it rained.

Edit: Insurance was £290 with Clickquote.

    ooh, thats nice....

My mum just came in came in when I was looking at peds and I showed here some, and she said, the man from the shop said your not allowed to ride it unrestricted. :duh: bugger, shes onto me.

I wonder what the fastest restricted ped is? Apparantly some can do 40mph

I'm sure one of my mates took his CBT then was straight on a 100cc moped - is that possible? Granted he was 17

the defensive riding thing - I'd do that on a pushbike too if you can keep up with traffic, especially at mini roundabouts and stuff; all you need on 2 wheels is some biatch in here range rover fresh frm dropping off percy and matilda... :duh:
