For me I have to try and approach them as a completely different entity so as not to be disappointed.

I enjoyed Foundation series but it was no way like reading the books, for example.

The pale blue Eye - Louis Bayard

Watched the movie, enjoyed it quite a bit.
Started the book, enjoying it more.

(Not really, there was a discussion about Norton on Masto and I snapped a shot of my copy of the Pink Shirt Book from the office library in response. Good excuse to bump this back up from the depths, though - what you all readin'?!)

I'm reading HG Wells' The War in the Air, first of his I've read and I'm surprised how much humour is in it. I managed to get a cheap, poor condition first edition off eBay, it's more fun to read decrepit old books like this :hehe:

Shame about the condition, obviously, but that's a beautiful book!

Finished The Pale Blue Eye a long time ago, read a lot since then... Not that I remember all of it. A couple of Jack Reacher novels, the sixth book in the Red Rising series, some comics.

Right now I'm reading King's latest novel, Holly.

Did you read Duma Key? That was a belter. Discovered it recently, belatedly.

I've read every single novel, novella, short story collection, and non-fiction book he ever released. Well, with the exception of one or two short stories that were either magazine or Kindle exclusives about ten to 15 years ago.

You could say I'm a fan of his work, I guess. ;)

Eldest wanted to stay up to see in the new year last night, so I actually found time to cross something off the to-read pile:

I've just finished reading The Wasp Factory, best book I've read in a while, just sort of pulls you along continually.

Iain Banks was quite a literary force.

Not read The Wasp Factory, but read a few like Espedair Street and a good number of the Iain M Banks SF books which are epic.

Is that your first Iain Banks book? If so, you are in for a treat. All of his stuff, whether the Iain M Banks sci-fi stuff or the more "grounded" non-M stuff, is fantastic.

Absolutely love Banks, one of my favourite authors. Can't believe he's been gone for 10 years now.

    I recommend it!

Yeah, I've had it a while, previously I was meaning to start on The Expanse series (don't even know what it's called) but when I went to the bookcase to start something new The Wasp Factory just jumped out at me, not sure why. It was only recently that I found out Iain Banks and Iain M Banks were the same guy :hehe:

    Finished Holly, it was fun.

Read a book about the Donner party (The Indifferent Stars Above), extremely interesting.

Currently reading the new (second) book by Terry Hayes: Year of the Locust. Absolutely loved his first book (I Am Pilgrim), and this one seems to be as good or even better.

Thanks for the heads-up, I'll be prepared.

Maybe I'll like it (like in The Ritual, where both halves of the book are great yet so different), maybe I won't.
