My son came to me yesterday saying that my mini itx pc wasn't booting Went and checked it and it was stuck on a black screen with just the cursor flashing. Fiddled in the bios and using diskpart and managed to change it so that it actually say select a proper boot device. Using diskpart I can see that the disk is still there and all of its partitions, it is a GPT disk therefore has no MBR which I found out after trying to check it and repair it. Malware bytes flagged up and blocked a website he visited (no not "THAT" type) but I believe the pc also did an update shortly before. I have been fumbling around with solutions found on google searches but I'm getting no where any ideas? ..also the windows repair doesn't do anything either.
Tried resetting BIOS? Clearing CMOS? Sounds like windows (10?) update borked something. Also try gparted and check that the boot drive flag is actually "boot". If windows repair isn't working try doing a chkdsk in command prompt.
If the MBR is missing, it might be worth attempting to repair it with CMD and a couple of commands. A quick google should give you what you’re after.
...but from what I read if it's GPT there isn't an MBR. Already tried repairing the MBR repair stuff from Google that's how I got to where I am now.
1. Is it uefi boot or bios? 2. have you tried "bootrec /fixboot"/"bootrec /scanon"/"bootrec /rebuildbcd" from repair cmd? What was the output of each command?
