Hi guys, The boot (trunk for the Americans) light in my focus is piss poor, as I expect most boot lights are. Now the typical thing is to cut a few wires and wire some white cathodes in there. But I want to keep the light source coming from the little light box but using a few LEDs instead of the default bulb. The boot bulb is a 5 watt jobby, as with most/all cars that going to be 12 volts, so that's less than half an amp. Now I understand that I need some resistors to get it down to 5 volts for the LEDs, I just do not know what that will do the amps, and how to wire up multiple LEDs. I have been looking at ohms law etc, but most of it goes right over my head. So if anyone who is a lot better with electronics than me could assist me in creating something I would be very thankful. And if you are really awesome you could tell me which bits to get from maplin so I can go buy the exact bits Thanks in advance for any input.
You can buy prewired 12V LEDs Saves soldering the resistors etc. , just connect them straight to the 12v supply. I use this place quite abit - phenoptix.co.uk
Cool cheers for that link. I am on their ebay shop at the minute. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/5-x-Pre-wired...al_Components_Supplies_ET?hash=item53dbf1a807 These look like a good buy, but as there is a resistor in each one, I guess that putting them in a series is not going to work. So going to have to look them up in parallel, am I right?
If you go direct to his shop, he also sells a strip of about 15 LEDs linked to a single 12V connection. Cost about £8, and will give plenty of light for a car boot. Cheers
