ok so a few weeks ago my mobo in my custom build burned out (foxconn a7gm-s) and was rmaed (foxconn a7gm-s 2.0) so i decided to start fresh and reinstall all my operating systems... so i started with win 7 rc x64 and that went well and when i tried to install xp pro x64 upon the "restart" to continue installation i got "error loading operating system" so i tried the logical thing (i used vulgar language) and i tried to do a re-installation with a full format... THE SAME DAMN THING!!! so i tried a recovery console (with both xp and win7 discs) and it turns out my boot manager is getting removed... what do i do??? edit to be exact with the win7 recovery console im getting in the "show problems" flyout "MissingBootManager"
OMG I FIXT IT!!! i went into the win7 repair console and did a complete by hand rebuild using the crap on the windows site... (more like i pieced together a bunch of articles from vista and win7 to do it... honestly im not sure what did it) alls i know is when i did the "bootrec /scanos" for the third time i finally got "0 os found" which is what i was aiming for... now upon reboot xp resumed installation and now i can use easybcd to fix it for dual boot... there will be some serious need for speed tomorrow...
XP (and older NT-based Windowses) use NTLDR to boot the OS. Vista and newer use Windows Boot Manager. The former obviously can't understand the latter. You should ALWAYS install the older OS first.
