Hello, I've recently purchased the parts for a new computer, which I decided to build myself. Great, I got it working in one case.... and after a day or two decided that the case was just too small, and that it would get to hot in there.

So I brought a new case, and decided to move it all over... in doing so, I did everythign the same, checked and double checked.....

    Went to turn it on...
    It started booting fine...
Got the scrolling bar at the start of the vista screen...

And then thats as far as I got....
I decided to re-boot and try again....
    Same thing....
On the third attempt I got a Blue screen stop errror....
    It read ''MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION''

Blah blah blah... Any new hardware should be removed...

    Oh noes I thought!
    All the hardware is new...
So, I tried taking it back to basics... tryed again... with just the mobo, power supply and Hdd attached... no joy :(

Anyway... after several attempts at doing that...

I took it all apart and completely started again...
    Still no joy...

Anyway... I thought, maybe re-install Vista
So I wiped the harddrive on a different computer... plugged it in...

    Installed Vista...
    Worked!.. Yay I thought... then
I rebooted, still ok. I decided to re-attach all the other bits like second hdd and so on...

Attempt to boot... same problem again, just looping round on the Vista boot screen...

If anyone could shed any light, or possible soloutions, I would be very happy, thanks,

You can't transfer your harddrive form one comp to an other and expect it to work.
Windows Vista needs to be installed on the machine it will run.

This is the case since Win95 !!!

    Do this:
1- Have mobo, PSU, HDD, Optical Drive, RAM, CPU attach. NOTHING ELSE
2- Make sure the BIOS detects everything properly, and everything is configured properly.
3- Make sure that everything is perfectly well attached inside.
4- re-install Vista (make sure it's legit and genuine).
5- Do not install any SATA drivers or wtv during setup.
6- When setup finish, do a windows update if possible, and check for BIOS updates at ASUS website (floppy drive might be required)
7- reboot, and go in Vista again
8- install drivers one by one, with reboots between (NO BETA)
    9- reboot
10- shut-down properly your comp (Start> "Arrow" > "Shut-down") DO NOT press on the Shutdown button, thats actually deep sleep by default.

If you can't go to step 6, then ignore step 6, and install the SATA drivers. Else, something is broken or it's a BIOS issue, and need to be updated.

With XP you could delete all the devices for the motherboard from device manager then plug it in and it would work. Not sure if the same is OK for Vista.

But full repair reinstall is the best way to go as GoodByte says

He wiped the HD on another computer and installed on the system that was giving the problems.

Have you checked that you have good contact with the HS? Turn on your system and go straight into the BIOS. Go to the hardware monitoring option and check your temperatures. If they go up steadily, then you haven't installed the HS properly. Other than that, I suspect that there is a hardware fault somewhere.

Just re-read your initial post, what extra bits are you adding? Add them one at a time, not all at once and see which addition starts to cause the problems.

    Hope that helps.

Right, I've fixed the problem with the Blue screens... It appears my HSF wasn't connected properly, and the CPU was overheating....

How ever the boot problem remains. I have however got it to work a couple of times....
It usually works if I go into the BIOS..
I don't change anything, but after I go out of the BIOS and it re-boots... It will boot fine... Odd I know

I downloaded the latest Asus BIOS Update. And flashed the BIOS, but it doesn't seem to have made any differance at all....
Any suggestions on where I am to go now?

    System Specs:
    Asus P5N-E Motherboard
    Core2Duo E6750
    HSF - FReezer 7 Pro
    OCZ 2x1Gb Platinum RAM
    Creative X-Fi Xtreme Music Soundcard
    Nvidia 7600GT
    Samsung 500Gb Spinpoint
Maxtor 200Gb Hdd (OS installed on it)
    MAxtor 160Gb Hdd
    (All HDD SATA connected)
2x DVD-RW Optical Drives (IDE Connected)
    Hiper 620W PSU
    2x Sharkoon 80mm 1000 Fans
    1x Hiper 120mm fan
    1x Stock case can

The CPU and Mobo temps are now stable, roughly at 24 cold start up. And constant stable at 34 after being run for a while
