As much as it sucks that he would be "the man," he deserves it in a way...the software is great and opens up a whole host of legitimate uses previously unavailable.

What I find hiliarious is the RIAA's and MPAA's total 180. We go from "It's bad!! BAD BAD BAD!" to "Oh, we are so totally down with this..." Ya know what they say, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em (or, in this case, make 'em a member of your club and give 'em profits based on legal distribution).

Does this maybe reek a little of the fact that they have lost a bit of legal wrangling power, and now are hoping to lure him into bed instead of the courtroom?

    so the choice now is:

    1. use bittorent to download legal torrent (pay £30)

    2. use bittorent to download ilegal torrent without annoying EA message about using your
    ********ing seat belt. (pay £0)

When you create a peer-to-peer program, its bound to be used for illigal activities and sharing of 'warez' since there is no use in sharing freeware (wich can be downloaded from any regulair website like downloads.com) or home recorded explicit movies.

Im wondering what kind of stuff you can get through bit-torrent thats actually legal and what you couldnt get in the past before peer-to-peer software.

I was thinking the same thing kipman, so they release the paid for version of the movie then a day later when the drm is removed it's released as a free offering, which is top quality. I like the sound of it tbh

There was a talk about this in another thread on BT, where we were discussing the idea. Here's some highlights:
    1) Reinstituting the idea of shareware for even today's bigger games
    2) Cheapening the cost of games by lowering the digital distribution costs (using P2P to distribute and a steam-like authentication)
    3) Patch distributions to get around crappy sites like FilePlanet
    4) Linux Distros and other freeware

I dont think it would be fair for anyone to be annoyed at the guy, you gotta get paid at some point. He could live off this sorta thing for the rest of his life, wouldnt you?

Id prefer that than people trying to find an excuse to sue me over making it.

Was saying to my gf, they could aswel as let people download these for a fee start an online cinema so to speak... You pay either a monthly or per view fee (half the cost of the cinema) to watch new films, between cinema and dvd release, like an online pay per view. With all these media pc's going into peoples living rooms it makes sense to do summin like this.

it would probably make it quiker and easier to pirate new releases tho...

the whole idea behind going to the cinema to watch a film is the size of the screen, the quality of the sound and imagery, charging half price to watch it on a 17" screen with little pc speakers would be way over priced as it would almost certainly cut the quality in order to cheapen the price of delivery. In my opinion it would have to be arround a fifth of the price....

I was just a thought, I havent gone in to great disscusion over it :eyebrow:

The idea was more aimed at people with media pc's hooked up to AV equiptment, not everyone has time to go to the cinema and cba to pay £5+ for every member of there family or whatever plus popcorn and drinks. Its not the sort thing thats going to kill the cinema, as you said you go for the experience, to be engulfed by the experience the maker has created.

Anyways, personally I think the cinema is too expensive and there are a lot of crap films about, all the 'best' bits just go straight into the trailers so some are a bit misleading to the public... Especially when they say "its the best film in the world ever!".

Theres a couple o' films out at the mo that might be worth watching so I may have to check em out, aint been to the cinema for atleast a year :(

    Fibre,

that could be an interesting pay-per-view video model...faster distribution, and more convenient than video....and you wouldn't need to worry about going to the video store anymore. Talk about killing blockbuster...

An online video store...Imagine netflix, completely on demand and with some of the newest titles around. That'd be pretty sweet, actually!
