Full Story here: Good, i feel what they did is totally unexceptable, although i do feel the BBC are to blame as well in this matter as it could have been stopped before being broadcast. What are your thoughts. Sam
This has been blown completely out of proportion, it happened over a week ago on a show that most people complaining probably don't and shouldn't listen to. Hyped up by the band wagon that is the news papers. Every one has apologised and even Sachs has said he accepts the apology and has asked every on to move on.
This should never have made it to air, simple as. Whether it should have been recorded or not, well. That's not the issue - The fact that it went to air is. I don't think they should be suspended for it, I would have had them outright fired. There is no excuse for their behaviour - Especially Ross, considering the years he's been 'in the business' he should have known better than that ****bend Brand. I've not complained to the BBC, I don't see the need to (What is it, 18k now?) and now they're suspended. That said, I don't know wether that's suspended with or without pay - I hope it's without, otherwise it's just another bloody holiday for them.
Silly idiots jumping on the band wagon, hey lets all jump on so we look good to the idiot that can't take a joke! **** me even Cameron the Cock jumped on. It was a joke, a very funny joke infact, and 99% of people who have complained or are complaining haven't even listened to the WHOLE thing, only the little snippets on the news. I have my Mum ringing me up telling me Ross and Brand should be sacked, but when I state "Did you even listen to the whole thing", she replies, "No", "So you're opinion is invalid then" I said. People joke about rape, murder, torture, 9/11, London bombs, baby abuse, Iraq, the list goes on. But when it involves sex etc, holy ****, everyone is ****ing offended, hey, if it wasn't for sex, you wouldn't be here, and if you don't enjoy it, you're screwed in the head. It's a joke, move on, Sachs used to be involved in Comedy so he should know that he is open to this kind of thing.
So it's okay to suggest that someone is, and these are Brands words, 'a satanic ****'? Is that acceptable? Is it acceptable to go on, then, to phone this girls grandfather up and say what amounts to "Hey, I ****ed your daughter, and she's a satanic ****!" If you think that's fine for broadcast then I'd suggest it's you who's screwed in the head. Might be fine for 4chan, but not the BBC.
Who's to say whats acceptable, 30 years ago censors tried to cancel Doctor Who for excessive violence. An excellent example from the beeb. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7676195.stm Do you consider it inappropriate that two men should proposition each other, things move on.
Of course standards and taboos change - It's part of our progression as a society, and a race. However, going out of your way to call someone a satanic ****, regardless of whether it's a man or a woman, and then get explicit regarding what was supposedly done? That's not something that should be broadcast - Hell, even channel five doesn't broadcast ****ty porn anymore - Why should the BBC, a supposedly 'better' channel/company/whatever be okay to go and broadcast what could be construed as a personal attack, which explicitly references someone who is only involved based on the fact that she is related to Sachs (Or because Brand actually did have sex with her, but nfi whether that's just falsified for the sake of being more 'shocking' and 'out there' or whether it's actually true). Standards change, sure, but this smacks of someone trying to get more ratings by being 'shocking' and took it way too far.
I agree that its been blown out of proportion, people who are complaining shouldnt watch the show in the first place. I cant understand why people complain anyway, they must be some sad losers I mean seriously why would you ring up the BBC and say that a show had upset you? No offence to anybody who actually did. lol.
Why shouldn't it be broadcast? Because some find it insulting if every one who was insulted by some thing got there way we'd all be listening to static and maybe the news now and again, sanitised of course. I honestly doubt it was even a ratings thing, the man's a clown and no doubt but this is why people listen to him believe it or not but some people find his brand of humour entertaining and these people also pay their licence and are as entitled to be represented by the corporation as you or I.
I need to find the broadcast somewhere and have a listen, however from what I can gather from the news I do think it's been blown slightly out of proportion, especially considering Brand and Ross are at the epicentre. Whilst what they did is quite inexcusable, it could have remained private and apologies sent out swiftly thereafter. However, somebody somewhere deemed it appropriate for broadcast and it is that person, or parties, that need(s) to be reprimanded, if they haven't been already. However, I agree that too many people are, as has been said, jumping on the bandwagon. For goodness sake, the prime-minister has even piped up to express his thoughts. WTF has it got to do with him, shut your cake hole, Gordon, and get on with running our degenerating country. I realise there are social considerations with this and that it reflects badly on a national institution and promotes irresponsible behaviour, but for the PM to get involved? Really? Moreover, whilst they've had in excess of 10,000 complaints (last figure I heard) in the grand scheme of things against a listener base of several million, this is nothing. Suspension may be appropriate in this case, assuming links further up the chain of command are also dealt with comparatively, but to sack them? I don't think it's necessary. I think it would be a knee jerk reaction to a (relative) public minority and instead the BBC needs to learn from its mistakes, tighten its belt a bit, realise they've pushed the boundaries too far: clip their wings, put profanity counters on their show and fine as they overstep their limits, make sure shows are properly vetted but essentially move on. I say this most in the opinion that Ross is at times amusing and quite enjoy his shows when I catch them. However, I think that Brand is an ex-junkie waste of clean air that should've been culled a long time ago along with similar wasters such as Pete Docherty, Kate Moss, and Kerry Katona.
Just out of curiosity, how would you feel if you were in Sachs shoes, or Georgina's shoes for that matter, to find that someone has phoned you up and left a series of crude messages conjecturing that your granddaughter is a satanic ****? Would you laugh and move on, bearing in mind if you were in Sachs shoes you'd be a lot older and have an entirely different perception of what is funny (Personally, I find Brand to be as funny as being kicked in the balls for a half hour), and if you were in Georginas shoes you'd be being called a satanic ****, and having generally crude remarks made about you? Would you find it okay then? I doubt it, unless you like being generally insulted. I'm not saying that people who find his 'humour' entertaining shouldn't be entitled to see it, or hear it, whatever - But things like this should really be screened from general broadcast. Buy it on DVD or CD or whatever if you want to laugh at someone being insulted, when it becomes the norm to laugh at people being insulted, then sure. Put it on the TV/Radio, but then I think we have a bigger issue with our society. As an aside: Some of the music I listen to has been described as white noise Dunno if you saw this, but it's a transcript of the four phone messages and some of the chatter before/between the calls.
Again, complete ignorance on the subject from the people who complained, have you not read the full story? http://www.smh.com.au/news/lifeands...-of-bbc-scandal/2008/10/29/1224956096604.html Andrew Sachs is not some random guy, and his granddaughter is not some innocent woman which the media is leading the public to believe.
I blame the BBC for testing the boundaries wiith their so called 'cutting edge' tv and radio. If there won't so many compalints and Sachs hadn't complained, this type of ignorant bullying would be embraced like all the other trash there is on tv. If you don't agree then try not watching tv for a year, or radio and then come back and you'll be suprised and shocked how wrong it is. Tv will find some way for desensitizing us anyway. I tried it and couldn't beleive what I saw. tv these days really is crud. I would have love'd to buy a new lcd for the winter, but now I don't know if I should bother.
True i would find this insulting and I'd demand an apology and move on, life is too short. I must also reiterate that Sachs whilst perhaps not seeing it as funny has also moved on he was a comedian also. This is the bbc time line of the events i think it sums up how much this is bandwagoning (?) http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7694989.stm FWIW that is far from a trasncript, its an excerpt, big difference.
Okay having now read it that really is quite atrocious, but I stand by my original position on the matter. A sincere and private apology could have been made to Mr Sachs, and the program, or at least particular section, should have been prevented from airing at all. Now those responsible for it going live should be disciplined appropriately.
The blame for this falls solely at the producers of the show and the guy they were taking the piss out of. It was a pre-recorded segment so why did the producers let it air if the BBC thought it was in such bad taste and they also got permission to air it from Andrew Sachs although he said he just said yes because he couldn't hear what was going on because of a bad mobile connection, who in there right mind blindly says yes like that?
"He continues: "She always said to me, 'don't mention that to my granddad Manuel', and now here we are. "So when we talk to Manuel, don't mention that his granddaughter's a satanic ****." After it emerges that Sachs will not now be in the show due to unforeseen circumstances, listeners hear Brand and Ross leave four messages on the actor's voicemail." Been there, read that, don't care what she does. Taking the piss out of people for anything is plain stupid, offensive, and generally asshole-ish. Incase you can't be arsed to read prevous posts: "I've not complained to the BBC" Regardless of what she does a broadcast was okayed that essentially boils down to "Hahaha, she's a satanic ****, I ****ed her. Let's phone her grandfather and tell him! Oh, let's be graphic about it too, for extra laughs. ****ing star idea, mate!" It was a crass thing to do, and broadcasting it is as good as endorsing that behaviour. You want to laugh at other peoples jobs, and people being insulted? gb24chan :/
The big thing that people are missing here is that is was a bloody JOKE, a JOKE, you know what comedy is? It's a JOKE, it's not a serious matter, it's not the BBC News, it's to make people laugh, and because certain people don't like it doesn't mean the majority has to suffer because of it. George Carlin = Legend, funny to millions, but I bet he has millions of haters, does that mean he should of been hated? Ross is a total legend in my books, Brand not so much, because of one very small "mistake" (which was very very funny), one satantic ****, the ignorant public, and a few idiot PMs blowing things out of proportion, their careers are on the line. And you wonder why other countries think the UK is a joke?
