Also from the Beeb this morning:

Tiscali are to offer broadband net access at the same price as dial-up connection.

For £15.99 a month, the service provider will offer a 150Kbps connection, three times faster than dial-up.

"The new offer gets rid of the price gap between narrowband and broadband," said Steve Horley, Tiscali's net service director.

But analysts and net providers are sceptical that the low speed will offer the broadband experience people expect.

    More here

150Kbps = Broadband? It's certainly faster than dial-up, but not that much faster than ISDN, and that's classed as Midband.

What do you think the minimum speed is that can be classed as BB? I say 256Kbps is the broadband 'entry point'.

I agree, 512kbps. There are ways of getting 'pseudo-2mbps' connections at standard broadband prices, so I definately wouldn't class 150 as broadband.

Perhaps this would be a good service to combine with a satellite net connection, though?

Plus, I think they still need to worry about getting the country hooked up properly. Cable is still my only option in this area, even though I'm not even 10 minutes outside a major city centre by car

I've said it before, and I'll say it again....
    Bring on the broadband blimps!

ISDN is still very expensive though isn't it? especially for 128k ISDN. If money was an issue when choosing a net connection then £16 a month for something 3 times faster then dial-up doesn't sound so bad. certainly not broadband but a big improvement on 56k.

ii also think that 512 should be the minimun i mean wat tiscali are offering isnt gr8 btu for some ppl not wanting to spend the full money on the likes of BT broadband tehn maybe they will find this more benificial than us. but as for me i think ppl wanting speed and nothing less wont look any further in to this.

Now that will make lots of kids cry ;)

Explanation: Parents will always go for the cheapest thing they can find (hence Mataland), so you can gaurantee this will do well. Imagine 150K instead of shiny 512k, doesn't bear thinking about.
