No idea who makes them, but there are repair places out there: http://www.ipodmods.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=MINI_IPOD_PARTS http://www.ipodmods.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=SCREEN_IPOD_REPAIR But considering a mini only costs $199, you maybe better off buying a new one and using the old one for spares.
If it has been within one year since you bought it, Apple should replace it under the one-year limited warranty that comes with the iPod. A google search came up with this link: http://wholesalepdas.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=73
I thought the same thing until I spoke with Apple. (Which I cannot do again unless I want to pay $50.) They told me that broken screens were considered "abuse" and they would not fix it. (My daughter had it in her pocket all day.) I was told to throw it away and buy a new one. Thanks Apple. You rock! Thanks for the feed back.
I was wondering...how exactly is it cracked? If it's anything like the regular iPod, it has the same plastic casing over top the LCD and around the rest of the case. Did it crack underneath that somehow? Also, it might have been better to tell Apple that when you bought it, it came like that.
It cracked from the bottom near the center of the screen. That is structurally the weakest point on the Ipod mini. The cover plastic was undamaged and the aluminum case shows no sign of damage. This also had a hard plastic cover over it. I think that she was jumping up onto a wall and either leaned or landed on it. I think that I have a replacement screen lined up. I will post any technical details I can find. I wonder if she would like an extra "features" as long as I have it open?
Mod 10 LED's on each side, that act as a visualization of whats playing (winamp style). She'd be even more, dare I say, "bling bling"ing.
That's a cool idea, but I doubt there's room for 10 LEDs (or anything else, for that matter ) in an iPod mini.
Same thing holds true for just about any product that has a lcd screen (laptops, calculators, ect...) its almost always cheaper / more benifical to buy a new one. Apple could have offered a repair service that Im sure is more than $199. It may be tough plastic on the outside but the inside is still fragile electronics.
Okay, I am pretty sure it is made by Wintek. The part number is WD-G1311X-1WLWE. Any thoughts on suppliers?
Ah hah. Found a nice link thanks to iPodLounge: http://www.ipodresq.com/hitlist-browse.php?subCat=IPOD_FLAT_RATE_LCD
