my brushed steel effect which is still a work in progress has started to rust theres bound to be a way to clean them up isnt there
car best to seek advice from your local car (automobile to you americans ) store, they will have a huge knowledge on how to tackle metal rust
what got on the steel to rust it like that? especially that fast. Oh, some metal objects, like nails, rust if you pass current throuh them and they have some water on them. the current accelerates rust a cuple fold. (thermite is made from rust)
Re: car I call it a car... If your in a relatively humid enviroment it can cause steel to rust. Are you keeping it in the garage? Morning condensation would also speed up the process of rust. The best solution is a clear coat though. Just sand'n'spray .
Haven't been using sea-water for the wet sanding have you? Salt (or salt air) eat the hell out of metal in a HURRY. If you live near an ocean, sand with one hand and clearcoat with another.
magnesium strips lit off of a blow torch light it well! Hey, Im not in honors Chemistry 2 for the class!(liquid nitrogen rules too!)
i think ill resand it down and maybe if i can find one locally pay a visit to a chromner!!!!!!!!! i live near a river but not the sea, and its called a car (but lets not start that arguement>
Oh Great, Now I have to call my auto a car? and all this time I have been saying "hey, let's jump in the Pflumingomobile and go to the mall" Now I have to say car? Great... Why doesn't someone post any changes like this so I don't get caught being cliche or something...
Could you maybe explain how you're going about doing your brushed steel effect? And yeah, I suffered a serious cultural disaster when I told my friends my truck would henceforth be known as "teh big automobile." No one claims to know me anymore
Also works great on chrome! Pour coke on the surface and rub it with aluminum foil. Works as good if not better than most metal cleaners!
If you don't get the coke off afterwards, it generates rust pretty well too . You should just jump in your aut... car and buy some clearcote man.
Rubbing Compound Use Rubbing Compound !!! Depending on the amount of rust it could work or maybe not.. but from what it sounds like its just a little rust. Rubbing compound is just what it sounds like if you have never used it before.. its a bunch of goo that u put on a cloth and all u do is rub! and rub and rub Lotsa elbow grease involved but this works wonders.. im not sure if it will take away from your brushed steel effect but id suggest rubbing in the direction of the brushed effect, or if its in circles.. rub in circles(rubbing in circles seems to work the best anyway!) Rubbing compound can be found at almost any hardware store.. and isnt too expensive either! Good luck
