    Hey.

I thought it would be cool to see how many of us work in the motor trade and what we do.

Might be useful, we like to help each other out in this job!

I'm a salesman for Station Garage a Skoda dealership near Gatwick.
If you think I can help you with anything let me know.

Let's see what you do!

You might be able to answer me this then...

I've got an Alpine 190W amp and a JBL 10" sub, which was working brilliantly. Until yesterday where it just doesn't work anymore. None of the fuses are broken, everything is making good contact but the light on the amp does not come on...

Is it possible to blow or short an amp?

    @ quattro
you need to be systematic about, first check the speaker wires aren't shorted @ the speaker and the amp end, if you have a test lamp or multi-meter then you need to check that you have 12v @ the amp terminals marked +12v and remote (stereo needs to be on) ,also check that the earth is making good contact

If no 12v feed @ the +12v terminal then check the fuse in the amp power cable (under the bonnet)

if theres no 12v @ the remote terminal make sure that the stereo is on and that the remote wire is connected @ the stereo end

If you have 12v feeds on these terminal and it still doesn't work check the earth and the fuses (if i remember correctly the alpine has a fault mode indicated by an red led if it detects a dead short) you can check the resistance across the speaker as well nnormally in teh range of 2 to 4 ohms but a dead short will kill the amp

if all else fails take it out and drop it off at a stereo place, repairs usually cost about 40-50 quid (where i work anyway ,the guy rings us if its going to be more than that)
