I'm looking for a buying a very basic budget laptop for when I'm away from my main machine for any length of time. Performance isnt a massive issue but price is. The best deal I can find so far is the Dell Inspirion 1501 http://configure.euro.dell.com/dell...5155&rbc=N05155&s=dhs&sbc=ukdhsftdppnotebook1 Total cost £348 Is this the best deal out there? any one have experiance of this model of laptop? Thanks, Mord
I can heartily recommend HP laptops... Pavilion's in particular I've bought two of 'e now. I use a 17" Pavilion ZD8228EA meself, and... based on my experiences with it... I subsequently bought a 15.4" Pavilion DV6231 for my youngest son (off these very forums in fact ). They look good... have great build quality, and the keyboards are the best I've ever used! And that includes all the desktop keyboards I've used over the years Furthermore.. HP are also very good at keeping you up-to-date with any drivers/software updates via email. You have to sign up for them of course, but once you do... you'll receive an email as/when anything newer becomes available for your particular laptop
Look here £275 + vat for a 1501. My mum just bought her second Inspiron 1501 with 1GB/80GB for £300 inc vat, del and a carry case

For budget lapper's i'd go for an Acer every time. My brother has one & it's always worked flawlessly.
I personally have had nothing but trouble from Acer laptops. I use a Toshiba Satellite for work and its not skipped a beat in almost 3 years of constant use. If only it had a better gfx card in it I could use it for everything... :/ For budget laptops, you could do worse that watching the Dell outlet pages...

Had an Acer since November and can't go a day without a dodgy boot now. Won't be getting one again! <A88>
