I am looking at getting a projector and have come down to 2 choices (the only ones in my budget)

    Benq MP610

    or

Epson S3 (i can get it from costco and it comes with a free screen :).

I am leaning towards the epson as the bulbs are relatively cheap.

Let mw know what you think.

I've heard that Benq projectors are pretty good. I've not heard much about Epson projectors. Also take a look at the Infocus X2, which should be in your budget, and which I've heard good things about.

see thats why i am leaning towards the epson as the bulbs are abot 1/2 of that fro a 2000h standard / 3000h econo. Also i saw the Epson S10 in store today and i really like the image quality so i think i am going ot get the epson S3 as the S10 is out of my budget.

You might get the rainbow effect with a DLP, or you could get screen door effect with an LCD. Which one of these is better for you needs to be judged by you. Is there any way you can test them out first?

Both are 4:3 ratio, are you OK with that?

2000 hours is a lot of hours mate. thats about 1 film per day, every day for 3 years! It is more likely that you will want to upgrade your projector before the bulb runs out.

I hear good things about the Infocus ones as well. You should check them out at least.

the problem with infocus is that i am on a tight budget andall of the place i have seen that are selling them even the X1's are over my budget by about 300 bucks. and yes i am fine with it being 4:3. my other problem is that i can't buy anything online thats more thean $1000 bucks since i am still a student and my credit card comapny wont increase the limit. :( So maybe i should wait on this ?

ok clarify things this is budget total including taxe, shipping, etc.

    $1000CDN = $857.64 USD = 498.175 GBP

so you can see i am on quite a tight budget.

    UPDATE

if i were spend a little extra do you think these would be worth it.

    Benq PE5120

    or

    Hitachi PJ-TX10

if i needed to i could increase my budget a little, but i would have to use my paretns credit cvard to purchase this.

Currently using a Benq for my tele in the living room and I'm impressed with it. Nice picture and all that - not too loud (but could be better).

Saying all that, I would recommend it, but I have no other experience.

For that budget you could get a really nice high def projector 2nd hand. A nice Sanyo or Panasonic or something. That's what I would do, but I would be very selective of who to buy it from.
