My Antec PSU has gone in my 2nd system and, while under warranty (just), it will cost a fair bit to RMA to Holland. I'd rather buy a new PSU that will have a new warranty with it.

The PC is an Opteron 144 @ ~2.6ghz, 2gb RAM and a Radeon X1900 XTX graphics card. I'm not sure what size power supply I'm going to need but I seem to remember the graphics card had a large drain at the time I bought it.

Does anyone have an opinion on the following: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/112899 (Hiper 530w @ £36.99)

I'd appreciate suggestions of alternatives as well, the only company I'd prefer to avoid is Antec mostly due to where their RMAs have to be sent.

    Thanks!

Every company that I know, require you to send your broken product to be replaced by the RMA. Else you end up with 2 times the same product.
I don't know your motherboard, but you have to make sure that your PSU is using the correct standard. If your computer is using ATX1.0, then a PSU that support is is required.

Look at the Corsair VX series, they are dam good (best?) PSU's. When I got my HX series, it came in a proper package, even a thick sturdy nylon bag to keep your cables clean and in one place, as well as black tie wraps that matches the back of the PSU and it's cables. And a 5 year warranty.
Did I mention it's ultra quiet?

I don't have a problem with RMAing a faulty product, just with having to send it to Holland when Royal Mail want to charge me the best part of £27 for the privilege. That's more than half way towards a new PSU.

The motherboard is ATX2.0, so 24pin which I think virtually all PSUs are (20+4 or 24pin) these days.

I have an HX620w in my main rig, but that would be overkill for the old PC I need a replacement for. It's only used by the Mrs to play WOW and send emails/browse the internet.

The Corsair 450 VX comes in at £45 on the same website, which isn't too bad, but I would rather not spend more than I have to right now.

Thanks for the suggestion so far.

Welcome to the forum, but i must tell you off for thread hijacking!

Back to the first post, that Hiper power supply would certainly do the job. I have been using them for main yeah to great success!

Pardon me. I thought I was just adding something to the topic. No offence but I don't understand the need to have separate threads for basically discussing the same thing. Please correct me if I am wrong.

    Cheers!

As far as I know the Hiper's are a good power supply my brother has built many systems using them. He seems to think that they provide a lot for your money in terms of power, build quality, noise etc. I was going to get a Hiper power supply for my build but won a corsair so used that instead....

Don't worry; he's only joking. I don't know anything about Arctic Power to be honest. From the reviews I'd say buy it if you have a small case and aren't running anything high-spec.

    ahh .. that's a relief.

High spec .. hmm .. Does E8400 and 4850 (no OCs) count as high spec?
mind you, this is a build I am planning ...

The main reason is this; Steelez is trying to ask a question, and people, naturally respond. But when you add a second question in the mix, its hard to read the answers without some confusion on who the reply is for.

Steelez: I am looking at purchasing a Hiper 630W Type M PSU and have seen some good reviews on that model however there doesn't seem to be many reviews on the Type M 530W. From reviews I have read on the Type M 880W and 630W I have concluded that all Type Ms do not have identical characteristics. I have also noticed that the 530W has a slightly lower efficiency than the 630W.

Having said that I am planning to purchase a Hiper PSU and case so I am convinced they are a good brand.

Thanks for your input everyone :)

In the end I went for a Hiper 580w on special offer from Tekheads with free delivery over the bank holiday weekend. It should be arriving today.

Ignore him, you're both looking for the same thing anyway :p

But for a 500W I'd go for Corsair or Seasonic (both reviewed here :D)

a friend of mine have that exact PSU, well, it's 600w, but exact brand, exact packaging.

it's utter crap! (at least seems crap compared to my Corsair Hx620w) only 4-pin for CPU, too much molex, only 2 SATA, no PCIe connector (one molex-to-PCIe provided) makes a lot of noise and it outputs a lot of hot air.

get a Corsair if you can, their quality and aggressive pricing makes them a bargain.

I just purchased a Corsair VX450 to my dad's new rig and it seems like an excellent little PSU. Reasonably priced, quiet, long warranty and does what it says in the papers.
