I need to get a cheap, stable, socket 939 board for a friend. He probably won't even look in the BIOS so after I've set it up, it's going to stay like it is.

Main prorities are stability, cheapness, SATA onboard, AGP. A decent sound chip is a bonus.

I will most likely be getting a 3000+ winny. I have 2x512m of Twinmos which I will use if it is compatible. If not, Crucial or Geil.

I've had a quick look at the boards in the shops and the Asus A8V looks suitable. If anyone knows of any problems I might have with this board for this purpose I would love to hear them.

    Thanks in advace :)

    Abit AV8 or Asus A8V

I would say the Abit, just because I've built a rig with one and it was a great motherboard. Really pleased.

well, knowing your definition of "budget" would really help :p

looks like the majority of them fall in the US$80-$100 range, which I think is reasonable for a board w/onboard SATA, normally RAID. I usually go to newegg.com and play with the search options to get a feel for what's available. keep in mind that anything out of stock is usually at the end of the list. Most of the boards in that group are either nF3 or K8T800 chipsets - not sure about your preference on that.

Asus are generally 10% more expensive than everyone else though.

    Thanks everyone.

The cheapest one I can find currently is the ASus board, at about £78. As long as it is a stable board, which apparently it is, I think I'll get it. It seems quite cheap for a quality board.
