ok I have a hard problem I have been trying to work through. I am working on parting out a system for a friend. The budget is about $700 for everything. Including monitor. The system is for a dorm room so small on everything is good. It will function mostly as a school machine and for music, no real gaming.
I need a few sugestions to get the most out of my money. Thanks

im really good at this sort of thing, configuring system for the best quality/performance/affordability ratio.

PM me sometime and we can talk.

The buyer already has a laptop and doesn't want to reaplace it. I have had horrible experiences with Dells desktops and will never go back. Thanks for the suggestions though.

being on teh other side of the water i cant comment where to get stuff for but for a ultra buget system summet liek an 775 socket or wait for a bti longer for the 993 cpu to drop
    althlon 3500 939
1gb of ddr iam sure you can get a decent but wnt have anyroom for overclocking
    foxconn Winfast NF4UK8kAA
    300GB Maxtor D/Max +10 SATA [16MB]
    Radeon X700 256M PCI-E
Plus as it will be used for music i would recomend
creative sound blaster x-fi with ther break outbox or wateva its called if your buget can stretch that far then all you need to do is find a ressonable case and flatscreen
iam sure some other poeple on here can be more help than me
