Of course it would, but that would play havoc with my ultra-cheap i7 build and push it over £700 with a 650W BQ You can bet that 450W Corsair will be a better buy than whatever that eBay system had in it.
A few things I know that will help you out with this. Firstly, I'd suggest getting the Titan Fenrir over the Noctua as it does an amazing job of cooling a 920. Also for best temperatures get some AC MX-2 as it will be better than the Titan paste that comes with it. Its fine getting 12gb if your doing huge render works for some CGI film company that eats up Gb's of ram but for general use, gaming etc 6gb's is more than enough (not to mention there is no performance difference between 6 and 12). With the 80 odd quid your saving on the ram, you could put that money into a pre overclocked gtx275 or perhaps an Oc'd gtx 285 like one from evga if the budget stretches. With the changes mentioned above you'll get more bang for your buck performance wise. Good luck with your build
Thanks for the input so far guys, Sounds good but I'd go for the 260GTX upgrade plus 600w, so would be touching on £750 I'd guess? Any advances?
I'll be working with High Def video through Flash, but nothing more processor intensive than that. A basic bit of Counterstrike and Fifa XX (whatever the year is) and Virtua Tennis will do me...! I'll have a look into those changes though and see what it comes out. Thanks!
Yep, you'd be around that mark with the 260 and a beefier PSU. But, although there's no difference in price, you've had the luxury of choosing your own components, and the fun in building it, of course
My cousin asked me to build him a PC for £900 using the Coolermaster HAF case and a motherboard and power supply that would allow for SLI in future years. Personally I would have gone with the Antec Twelve Hundred and got the Corsair HX850w PSU. The Scythe Mugen 2 got an excellent review by custom PC saying that for LGA1366 socket processors it only ran a couple of degrees hotter than the Titan Fenrir but was significantly quieter. In my book, quietness is better than 2 degrees cooler. Here is what I came up with from Ebuyer:
Can personally recommend the Mugen 2, very very quiet, running at stock, with prime95, i've never gone over 55 degrees. Idles at about 33
That looks very nice! Although.. slightly over my budget, but I'll use some initiative and see what parts I can swap on ebuyer to keep it down. I'm guessing the fleabay option is out of the picture then, I'm not sure what parts they use on all bits either apart from the RAM is Geil (says on here the full spec: http://www.freshtechsolutions.co.uk...-hdd-12gb-ddr3-ram-gtx-260-896mb-11985-0.html). Annoyingly it is £100 cheaper than building it myself, but I'm guessing the parts are a lot worse!!
Pretty solid build, just one minor point...... Drop that Samsung Eco drive!! It only spins at 5400rpm and will bottleneck an otherwise very fast system. I try to avoid anything badged "Eco", usually means it's slower than standard Either go for the 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F1 HD103UJ, or a 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200.12
go for the gigabyte board over the msi. It is much better and you can flash the bios to allow sli later on, its also a much better overclocker if you choose to go down that road in future. Just trying to keep your options open +1 to avoiding Eco - It just means slower for less power. Apart from that it looks good, however, u need a disk drive!!! With your set-up at the moment, if you did want to buy a second GTX 260, then you would have to buy some pci-e power adapters like these: http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/product.aspx?code=LE-PSPCI-E&af=50 http://www.overclock.co.uk/product/2-x-Molex-to-8pin-PCI-E-6pin-plus-2-Power-Adapter-Cable_19786.html
I've got an old desktop (c.2003) with a CD-RW and DVD drive, tempted to just use them to be honest...! Cheers for the feedback on the Gigabyte, will trade that up, and yup about the F1 over F2 but ebuyer was playing up at the time.
/\/\/\/\ Good shout about the MSI. I change my stance now that I see the price. It has much more features and on checking Custom PC the stock settings of the MSI are better than the Gigabyte and isn't as far off the Gigabytes performance in overclocking. Don't listen to me, get the MSI at that price and you are good to go, only downside is it is jobby brown! P.S. Just make sure the CD and DVD drives are Sata! We are trying to make big, fat, ugly IDE cables extinct!
We are trying to make big, fat, ugly IDE cables extinct!
There are those thin IDE round cables you know..
Heh! The drives are actually overweight IDE's - I opened it up this morning. Looks like I'll be grabbing a newbie then. I'll swap back the MSI board after your advice, cheers folks! Another question, Corsair do Dominator or normal XMS3 chips - (latency 8-8-8 or 9-9-9), is there any massive difference in them? I'll get the cheaper £92 ones if not.
the OCZ X-stream 500W got a very good rating for efficency and price in customPC. It was sold out when I purchaced one so I ended up getting the 600W for the same price =) Best part is its modular. I donno how quiet it is yet until the rest of the pc parts arrive. Damn irish sea >.>
