I was looking in the back of a magazine when I noticed something interesting. The "gaming" notebooks from alienware and voodoopc had the exact same chassis. I found this to be pretty intreguing. If they used the same chassis, then they must be getting the notebooks from some vendor, who may be selling them for much less. You can build PC's with identical parts as these companies, so why not a notebook? So, I did some research and found out where these cases were coming from.

They actually come from a company called Clevo, which offers a "barebone", that includes the same motherboard, chassis, and minimum requirements as alienware and voodoopc. Just buy the rest of the parts at any dealer and build your own identical laptop, saving a huge wad of cash. :cooldude:

    Clevo

    Alienware laptop

    see any similarities ;)

Only problem is where to buy the barebone.. help would be appreciated..

Yeah, i saw some of those "Generic" notebooks in one of my local computer shops, for a much cheaper price than an Alienware machine. I'd rather keep my Dell though. :D

Sorry but i can't help you with the barebone hunt though. :sigh:

From what I saw they didn't look like the were P4 Mobile procs. Without the Mobile edition the cpu will kill your battery and cause major heat issues.

Notebook is also branded as a Sager
    http://www.sagernotebooks.com/

As for the P4 not being "mobile" - one of the facts I read was the power consumption of a P4 was about on par, if not less, than that of a Mobile P3.

I almost bought a Sager, but got a Dell with the GF4 MX440 in it instead (Sager only had radeon mobile 7500 at the time) - gotta be able to get 50 fps in Tribes 2 ya know?

You buy the barebone at Alienware or VoodooPC. I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Clevo is strictly a supplier. So unless you want to fork over well over $10,000 for multiple laptops, I suggest you get something else.
It sucks that the end consumer price costs 3x the amount it's originally sold for, but hey, suppliers need global distributers, who need national distributers, need local distributers, who need customers you know  . Nobody could ever sell directly from the supplier to the buyer for 1/3rd the cost :grr: .

It does indeed look like a Clevo. Though if your chasis ever broke and it had to go back to clevo outside of a years warranty it would cost you ALOT of money.. Clevo are not cheap and not all that good really either
