Damn, I forgot all PSUs are not created equal... even when they're basically the same but one is rated higher... :wallbash: sorry, Ali. Have a look at the Corsair PSUs? I've got the HX 620w, and is probably the best PSU I've ever bought. They do a 1000w version, but I didn't recommend that because it's bloody expensive. Never used to be that bad, but it's gone up about £70 since September.

Then again, CPC reviewed the 800w version... might be different ODMs again, even between those two models.

I'll see if I can find any info on who makes those PSUs for Silverstone. Of course, if someone beats me to it... that's good too. :D

    ...

    ...

    Edit:

OK, I found something. According to JohnnyGuru, Enhance are the actual manufacturer of the Strider and Element lines, Seventeam make the Olympias, others are made by Fortron/Source and Etasis. HardOCP says that Silverstone PSUs are made by either CWT or Seasonic. But I'm more inclined to believe JohnnyGuru than [H], to be honest. I can't find anything solid on that 850w Dacathlon. :(

Better to be safe than sorry on the PSU front - it's the one thing in the system that can take out every other bit in there if it goes wonky.

Hm... I wonder if the Corsair HX 620w would cope with that system? I was gonna use one for my build, but I'm sticking with a 4850 that I've already got. It really should cope with GTX260s...

    Edit 2:

Hm. The 620w should just cut it. But personally I prefer a little more breathing room than that. Also, I've never seen loaded power draw as high as these PSU calculator programs give, so that adds some leeway. Even so, again, better safe than sorry.

    hmmm...

erm that made little sense to me but hey

basically your suggesting avoiding that psu..

I've had a look on scan and the modular ones at 850w around that price are:

800W Tagan TG800-BZ "Quad Rail" Gold Plated PipeRock Modular Cable Management, +80% Efficiency £128

    Coolermaster M1000 1000w psu http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1000...er-Modular-M1000-PSU-Very-High-End!-See-Specs £134

850w Be quiet Dark Power Pro- http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/850W-Be-Quiet-Dark-Power-PRO-BN075-Modular-PSU-87-Eff £143

Which of those would you prefer, I really don't want to go too low in the power department as i might replace gpu's in time to come and don't want to have to replace it again.

    thanks

Yeah, sorry, I got into info hunt mode. ;)

If you want breathing room, go for the Coolermaster 1000w. It's supposed to be good - I nearly got one a while back, but ended up cancelling the order.

Anyone else got a good (or bad) word to say about that Coolermaster PSU? I don't know anything about Coolermaster PSUs first hand.

Cooler Master PSUs are highly rated in my experience, but then so are Tagans and Be Quiets (even more so in my opinion).

As a side note, do you really need 2 GTX 260s? Have you looked at any reviews and seen performance for your gaming resolution? The GTX 275 performs well in nearly all games right up to 1920*1200. I know they give good performance per £, but not all games like multi-card setups as much as others, and when I've dealt with them in the past they've been nothing but hassle for me. So much so that I now try to avoid going the SLI route and just upgrade my current card for a better one.

I've not really paid much attention to BeQuiet... and if I remember correctly, Tagan had a hiccup a few years back where their PSUs had some issues. I don't know whether they solved those. Kinda lost track.

Best bet is Google for some reviews, see which one you like the sound of most. :)

arghhh sooo much information to take in.

I'm going to look into the cost of an alternative to 2x260's/270's in one single card.

with concerns to the psu, i think the tagan looks the best and I've seen some good reviews on it

I'm going to give things a few days to mull over things because spending that much money is quite a big leap to make and i want to make sure i get it right the first time

    thanks, ali

The new revised build looks pretty tasty Ali Nield :D BeQuiet build amazing PSUs, don't let their relatively unknown name put you off. They're modular, very efficient, quiet and quad railed.
