hi i've just built my new pc and i am just about to overclock it and thought i'd ask some opinions first.
i've built this close to the premium player rig in the april may buying guide with a couple of alterations.
    this is my set up

    i7 930 2.8Ghz (with a guarantee that it is overclockable to 4.425Ghz)
    corsair h50 cpu water cooler
    asus p6td deluxe motherboard
    12gb dominator gt 1866Mhz
    asus hd 5870 graphics card
    corsair hx750 psu
    128 corsair nova ssd
    1tb samsung f3
all in a coolermaster 840 case

my question is what setting is should look to be changing in the bios or software to get the best from my rig

thanks in advance for any help:)

p.s the hardware choices are because i like games i do video encoding and editing for my brother who is a musician and i studying engineering using cad packages.

nice rig! but bear in mind that the fact you have 12gb of RAM may limit your maximum overclock.

have all 6 memory slots filled puts extra strain on the CPU since thats where the memory controller is now and will ouput slightly more heat thus lowering your max stable overclock over 3 RAM sticks.

make sure you set the SSD up correctly i.e. turn OFF page file or transfer it to a second HDD.

ive got the corsair and ive found it works best as intended by using the rear as an intake with an added fan for pull/push. ive tried setting it as an exhaust but it added around 5C to idle and 7-10C under load.

im guessing you bought an overclocking bundle ? thats says it will do 4.4Ghz which is quite a tall order especially with the 6 RAM modules.

other than that check out the i7 overclocking guides on here. few tips though

set voltages and timings etc manually dont bet on the mobo giving the correct value.
be careful of uncore speed since its most stable at 2x the RAM speed plus 1x multi

i thought the same - a guaranteed 4.4ghz OC is rare, and even then that will only be with 3 modules.

adam: do you really need to move the swap file off the SSD? im running mine just fine - and i also have heard that disabling the swap file can cause problems in some apps, even though you may have enough real memory to run that app.

yeah you shouldnt run page file on an SSD cause it reduces the life of the SSD cause it only has a finite number of read writes.

you dont need to disable it although with 12Gb you probly could but you can set it on a normal HDD used for storage.

    thanks for the advice:)

so far i've got it stable at 3.95Ghz at 1.25vcore
    ram at 8-8-8-24 @1451Mhz ddr3 (12gigs)
cpu is running at a reasonable 71c at 100% load

the 1 thing i haven't done yet is turn off the page file i'm gonna check into that

thanks again and please feel free to give me any more advice
