What is this technology you speak of that added realism to L4D... another graphics card? DX10??

"ANY" tech. But mostly the game design advance. You can include DX10 and the GPUs use in there too!!

Sorry, but there really was no realism to Left 4 Dead, even in the loosest terms. Content-wise it was full of Zombies Infected mutants. Gameplay wise all the little things, like reloading, sprinting, stamina, etc, were all detached from reality in favour of good gameplay. Technically, it was no more or less realistic than most other shooters.

It's still a great game, just not a realistic one.

Perhaps we don't understand - what exactly are you defining at 'realistic'? So far you've said it's that they have 'real guns' and 'real people' shooting them in 'real idealised scenery'. The problem is that nearly every game (certainly every modern one) has guns that are analogue to real-life equivalents.

'Real people'? Well, yes, but no more so than any other co-op game. Is Borderlands realistic? Even then, apart from certain modes, the zombie antagonists aren't real people.

'Real scenery'? It's a city, sure. That's hardly enough to become realistic though. Far Cry 2 was set in the African desert, but that's not realistic.

I'm just having trouble what you mean by 'realistic' as, to me, 'realism' in games arises from having an in-depth focus on minutiae that is largely ignored in other games. Thus, Call of Duty is not realistic, ARMA II is.

I am not looking for a REAL game. Not a game that mimic life. If I wanted 100% real thing I would stick to my life.

In that explanation mode (I don't remember the name) in L4D2 the narrator at some point said the difference between the pipe bomb in L4D and L4D2. In L4D when it explodes and there were lots of ZOMBIES (yes zombies) they just disappear and a lot of red paint covered the area.
The same scene in L4D2 would scatter some body parts all over.

The explosion itself have the same results. All ZOMBIES died. But the visual effect is much more improved.

You don't see laser whips with flashing green or purple lights.

I like borderlands a lot. The problem with borderland is the same of Far Cry 2. Both are good, but they because they are too huge they become boring at some point. But that's beyond this discussion.

Borderlands is not a unique game and its not realistic in the slightest I have to agree. But FC2 is much more within grasp than pirates from outer space. Even so, this is NOT what I meant in Tech aiding realism.

By the pictures, it is clear, at least for me, that they were much more interested in adding visual effects rather than something within our grasp.

Back to the explosion in L4D2, valve could add flashing uraniun green lights to it, but they didn't. They could add a energy whip too.

Lets put it simple: More realism, less (overkill) visual effects.

BTW, I do believe in space travel, time travel and even aliens much more than in a Zombie outbreak.

WOW another mediocre console ported FPS using the Unreal Engine. This is exactly what I spent hundreds of dollars to build my PC for. Friggin awesome. (prays to God and Gabe Newell for HL2 Ep3).

I believe in Zombies because it's been proven that some Voodoo rituals gone wrong using some toxic plant has basically turn people into Zombies minus the thirst to eat human flesh.

You want realism then go play the STALKER series because the Chernobyl area is still uninhabitable and they have found some mutated insects and animals there. Unfortunately no pseudo dogs yet.

i noticed it has the same (or damned near identical) font for the "headshot +50" e.t.c

it does look quite good. and does remind me a little of minority report (and a few other PKD novels)

been a long while since i played a good absorbing FPS.

Looks quite entertaining. As long as it isn't broken on the PC, I'll buy it.

-----> "Epic: Photorealistic games in ten years" Not from Epic. They'll still be selling UE3 then. Crytek, maybe.
