i like christmas, but i hate presents. i hate feeling like i have to buy stuff for people just because it's december, and i hate having to pretend i'm grateful for the stuff people buy me when i know it's just some crap that they picked up becuase they didn't know what i wanted.

Did the other religious communities actually request this, or was the rule devised by local city councils based on what they believed would happen?

Yeah in Religious terms it is, but that's if your "Christian".

Majority of people who Celebrate Christmas have **** all to do with Christianity. It used to be some Religious holiday, now it's not.

Just because people don't treat it as a religious holiday, it doesn't mean to say it isn't one :eyebrow:.

I haven't really enjoyed it much the past few years but this time round it'll be nice just to relax for a few days and not think about work and living etc.

Come on guys, don't be so damn miserable.

Xmas is what you make of it - ignore what everyone else does and concentrate on having a good time with your family and friends with lots of nice food and drink. I can see your point about having a rough time, and commercialism does suck, but don't be so bloody mard ffs.

Treat it like a chore and it'll stay that way.

    merry xmas humbugs :hehe:

Don't you bums realise that if you all hang out at the pub on xmas day, and celebrate/party/enjoy yourselves/have fun/etc on xmas day...
that you are basically having a xmas party :duh:

If you buy even one person a drink, you are giving them a present on xmas day, if you shout a round, you are getting everyone a xmas present.....
so chances are at least most of you guys will be giving presents for the hell of it on xmas day....
Enjoy your xmas party fellas, sounds like it's gonna be a blast

The only way to really spite xmas is to work over xmas break. No partying or enjoyment after work, just lots of work, eat & sleep. If you just stay at home by yourself, then you are taking a xmas vacation - it may be a lame holiday but it is still a xmas holiday.

heh, usually hate Xmas during the run-up, but i kinda like the whole event. This year even more so as i've been able to teach my sis how to build a pc (guess what she's getting!) which has been fun. Xmas eve also means the annual gig of my favourite local band.

And wasn't there a pagan holiday on similar dates that was adopted by christianity so's peopel would find it easier to celebrate? All i know is we have grapes on the top of our tree, not an angel! (not trying to get at anyone here, just wondering if anyone knew anything about it)

i agree the attempt to not 'offend' other religions is stupid. If i lived in China i wouldnt expect them to curb their chinese new years celebrations, i'd go out and enjoy it with them! As it is, the massed celebrations of many faiths (i live in birmingham) just seem to serve to make the place a bit more cheerful for those of us not celebrating it, seems like a good thing to me!

Like most of the Christian holidays Christmas is an adapted Pagan/Roman holiday.

Xmas has nothing to do with religion. It's all a plot by Argos to make money!
