You make it sound like gay people want to get married for the hell of it, they are people to with the same feelings as you, me and the rest of the world. To me, if you say that 2 people that love each other reguardless of there sex that they cant get married is the same as telling me I cant merry my girl because she is black. It comes down to the fact that yet again another minority groups rights are in jepordy and when that happens that means everyones rights are in jepordy and thats what makes me sick.

Dictionaries get revised all the time.

Technically they already have. Look at the phrase "a marriage of form and function". With that example, marriage is defined as a joining of seperate things into a single <whatever>.

Then you're an idiot aren't you.

Perhaps being denied social acceptance as married couples, or having the same legal rights as them forces them into more transient, less stable relationships. Ever thought of that?

No there is not. There is not one shred of evidence to support this blatantly homophobic crap and you know it. Homosexuality is genetically inherited... you can't BECOME gay by being around them. You're funny... yet scary at the same time.

No one decides to be gay... and even if they did... does that mean you will have to as well? You not got a mind of your own?

Alright, I didn't read this entire thread as I'm dead tired, but I'm going to touch on quite a lot of subjects, try to keep up ;) .

First off, being a homosexual is a private matter. I fully expect that all relationships (straight or gay) to be private. Thats not to say they (gay or straight) can't show mutual affection for eachother (to a point) in public, but seriously it's absolutely nobodys business, period. Is their marriage somehow effecting you? No, it isn't. You're not gaining weight, you're not losing hair, you're not getting cavities, you're not getting fired, it has nothing to do with you. My suggestion is to butt out.

However there is a limit to what I will accept as "equal rights". I've noticed that groups, gay, lesbian, African American, Chinese, etc... Have been demanding special rights. I'm all for equal rights, as far as I'm concerned if you're human you have the same rights as everyone else on this Earth. However I will not sit back while groups get special rights, thats bull**** and I will protest this until the day I die. I'll give you an example, a year ago when I was applying for scholarships (me being a white male) I ran into loads of problems. 90% of the scholarships out there were for gays, lesbians, transexuals, African Americans, Japanese, Chinese, whatever. It didn't matter if they were in the same financial situation as me or if they were filthy rich. Thats what irks me. And as another poster stated (I don't recall your name, sorry), if an employer highers a white man instead of an African American man he is accused of being racist, likewise if an employer highers a straight person instead of a gay/lesbian person he is considered homophobic. People don't even stop to consider that maybe the guy who got the job was more qualified. Now I'm not saying there aren't employers like that, but honestly it's ridiculous when you have to hire a minority or be called racist/sexist/homophobic.

On the topic of adoption, I personally believe a child needs a male and female role model. Theres just certain things you don't get from having two mothers or two fathers. Thats how nature works, a man and a woman were made to procreate and raise their young. I'm not saying that a child raised by two fathers/mothers will be inherently flawed, but I believe that a good male and female role model is key to raising a child. I honestly think that gay/lesbian couples should have an opposite sex mentor for the child, I think that it's that important.

Now in the context of procreation homosexuality is wrong biologically. It takes a man and a woman to create offspring. If everyone were gay our species would die off pretty fast (not taking into account test tube babbies). Nature just didn't make it feasible to procreate with the same sex, it would be great if it did, but it didn't. I know I'm going to get flak for this, but I believe in this area homosexuality is wrong.

Just my opinions, don't take offense.

In the context of procreation homosexual sex is considered by many to be biologically non-sensical, but relationships are often based on more than just sex anyway. A big point on the procreation issue, and the fact that nature has a wonderful way of balancing things, is that on an overpopulated planet where the human race is multiplying at a rate faster than the earth can sustain it with-out direct (and often damaging) intervention, homosexuality amongst a percentage actually apears to make tremendous sense.

How can you say in the context of procreation then say "but relationships are often based on more than just sex anyway", that ISN'T in the context of procreation.

And I am sorry but I dont buy that whole God intended it as its balancing the world population thing either, you could use the same arguement to say Hitler was doing gods work.

Personally I think the religious act of marriage should only be allowed between different sex couples (just my religious belief), however there should be a legal joining of people (that wouldn't need to be recognised as a religious act) that should be allowed between different and same sex couples.

what i don't understand is why the gov't is getting in on this at all. would the gov't ban black babies from getting baptized? as far as i know there were no black apostles, the bible never "blacks are equal to whites" and it seems some people (you know who you are) only need the bible to say it's A-OK and they'll believe it.

even if you think homosexuality is wrong you HAVE to protect it. all your reasons for it being wrong are reasons for YOU to not be gay, and once we start using laws to discriminate against minorities, BAD crap happens. look at the past, i know i bring it up a lot, (i just want it never to happen again) but laws discriminating against jews was the first thing to happen in germany. (aside from the anti-semitism in a lot of the people). do you want another holocaust? if bush is re-elected it's a possibility, Kerry... i don't really know.

this is what really pisses me off about the gov't. for a long time, it isn't whats right, it's whats popular.
and they say they're american!!! thats why i am so pissed off at my country, we're jelly. we have no political backbone to stand on, our president bombs countries because his daddy did it. he restricts rights. and don't get me started on the "Us vs. Them" mentality he's created, he's actually using it to smear Kerry.
    ************************************************
you know what gay people should do? it just came to me! become a religion!!! you can worship whatever you do (or don't) now, just build a special church, so when the gov't gestapo says you can't get married, just cry "RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION!!!" and sue for millions!!!

come to think about it, special churches for minorities is what I'm trying to fight... dammit...

.:EDIT:. DAD, i was rereading your posts, i seriously want to meet you some day. I for one am no good at arguing, my mind locks up and i realize what i should have said after it's too late, you can hold your own, i respect that. how do you feel about guns?

To go a bit further, the bible actually does NOT condemn slavery. So all the people who are using the bible as a weapon in this argument are actually only selectively applying their beliefs.

Well, for the most part I agree with you, but I believe that as far as the religious aspect of it goes, I believe that it should be left up to the religion to decide whether or not to allow same sex marrages. The civial marrages should be completely seperate of the religious and same sex marriage should be allowed. This government is supposed to provide equal rights and equal opportunity under the law for ALL people, not just selected groups.

That was me and I'll be right there next to you protesting. The problem is that this is the "norm" within America these days and is accepted by the law. I can quite seriously go on for pages about things that I've discoverd after becoming a divorced father within this country and how discrimination effects me. I'm not talking about by my employer or certain people, I'm talking about discrimination by my own government who collects my taxes. To give you an idea, I found proof that there is an unwritten rule within the Child Support and Family Law system that all divorced fathers at first are considered and to be treated as "deadbeat-dads" untill such time as "the system" begins to receive money in the form of child support and the more, the better no matter what the financial status of the father is. But, that's a different thread.

The question here is how will gay marriage affect the majority of straight people ? ?Why should the majority of people be held hostage by a question phrased to put us on the defensive.

Because the majority rules and the rule currently say's marriage is betwen man and a women, I find it offensive that I need be the one in the larger group to even be asked how it affects me.

If you are gay and want to marry the answer is NO. If you own a Corvette and want to drive 120mph every where, the answer is no.It is that simple. Why would there be any need for any other explaniation ?

No ! ! there is the answer, and the only explaining it needs is to define the word NO.Anyone have a websters ? It is not required for me to be labled as open or closed minded,My opinion of same sex relations you may note has been left out and i did that for a reason. SO next time someone asks you a question that has an answer be sure to point that out to them and simply move on.

I suggest people get over it, and address issues that will have an impact on our day to day lives. It would appear all is well without gay marriage as has been the case for centuries,But it is also apparent that sickness, poverty, war and other like issues have no definite answers and are NOT OK as the centuries have proven !

    A Simply NO !

Ya just gotta hate it when it is that easy LOL.........................

What? Do you actually have any idea what you're talkin about? For a start this is a thread about whether or not it's acceptable for a government to refuse rights to a certain group of people. Not a thread for someone to just post no it's not happening and that's it.

And gay marriage is not a world wide no, there's countries in europe where gay marriage is legal and like it or not more and more countries are gonna start allowing it.

Your first post was just meaningless drivel, you clearly have not read any of this thread or have any idea of the arguments being discussed here.

The main problem here is that by dis-allowing or criminalizing same-sex marriage, it's setting precidence for discrimination on a broader scale. In addition, if this becomes law, it's not that far of a jump to make inter-racial marriage illegal or criminalize inter-racial adoption - Not to mention the fact that the gevernment will be once again chipping away at our basic freedoms.
