I found in your website about the proximity button that would open the cd/dvd drive. I would like some more information, offcorse if you have some :)

where the exisiting switch is you would solder out the push to make switch and locate the proximity switch with wires because i think it's to big to go where the normal button is and then you would set the proximity and walla. Should work :).

Actualy I have yet to even get my hands on a QT110
    (proximity switch)
I have some on the way though.

Basicly you follow the sample circuit in the spec sheets.
The output you can then directly to the eject button on the DVD
(One side of the button is ground, the other is the signal pin)
Make sure that the QT110 and DVD have a common ground connection.

    Oh, those are different.

They work when a mass of metal is nearby.

For PCs you want a QT110 IC chip.
    http://www.qprox.com/products/qtouch.php

They allow you to connect a metal plate, grid or object and use that as the button.
They can also work from "behind" a surface. (Non-metal)
This means you can mount the touch plate behind wood, plexi, or plastic, creating a totaly hidden switch.

damn... I don't think they ship them to lithuania.

I would go for a longshot and ask for you to mail me them and i would pay them at my post office for the price and the package sending.

and by the way what is the price?

I ordered mine from Dig-key, they ship world wide I think.

Those ultrasonic transucers don't work by themselves.
They need a microcontroller or chip to send out a pulse, and detect the return.
They also must be exposed to the outside, and they detect large objects, so not good for a button.

Zap is that the same method as galvanic electricity in your body? :)

The QT110 switch uses the capacitance of your body.

It self-calibrates to the enviroment, then senses a change in the capacitance of the touch plate.

The QT series are amazing pieces of electronics. If anyone's interested i can post my circuit on the QT110. It's a slight variant on the default scheme (toggle mode, transistor relay driver).
You can catch a glimpse of that circuit in my Plexeon case, controlling my 6 Luxeons, MO LCD (VERY cool effect), and PC power on/off.

lol, it's only 2 components! wiring depends on what you want to do with it.
    Here's my scheme .

    Side notes:
Scheme is based on the QT110-H (there's also a QT110-L but never could find one of those), so depending on what device you want to control, you can choose between a PNP or NPN transistor. Or no transistor / relay part at all (PC powerswitch, CD eject). And it's in 'toggle mode'

Credits to PCXtreme , Q-Prox support , and Bit-Tech for putting me on the right track. :thumb:

I didn't have anything to do with setting it up, but I'm using that switch to control my christmas lights, the switch is mounted inside the tree, you turn the lights on and set the dimmer level by touching a metal snowman ornament hanging on the tree, one touch is the lowest setting, four touches is the flicker setting

    my uncle set it up

For what different purposes would I want the the DIP8 IC or the SO8 IC?

Same chip, different package. The SOIC is a SMD version, if you can make and solder SMD PCB's then that's very cool!
But normal people get the DIP8 version, that's easier to work with.
