A strange topic I know, and I'm not even sure this really belongs in this section of the forum. That said, it does involve hardware (<-- clutching at straws  )

I just found out that one of my brothers is off to Taiwan next week with work. He jokingly asked me if I wanted him to pick up a 'computer or two' whilst he is out there. At first I laughed, and then thought... I wonder how difficult it would be to pick up a (second - read 'greedy') 8800 at dirt cheap prices?

Anybody here who has been to Taiwan that can enlighten me? If he stuck to a major retail area, I assume his chances of getting a fake would be slim? I have no idea whether it would be cheap enough to negate the fact that there will almost certainly be no warranty cover. Would there be problems taking it on a plane home? Are there any other things I would need to consider?

I'd really appreciate the help here and if any of the mods feel that this isn't appropriate in this section then, by all means, please move it :).

Hmm maybe scrap that, an albatron 880gts is about £250 on this site, not that cheap really

I was going to say, Taiwan isn't all that cheap for techie bits and bobs. China is pretty good though.

Well, a little investigating shows what an ignorant oaf I can be at times.

There's me, assuming that Taiwan is some 2 bob country where you could fly over, grab an armful of the latest electronic gizmos and return to blighty, the envy of all others, with nothing more than your pocket change missing.

Not quite. You learn something new everyday, I suppose.

*Checks atlas to see if brother can get a cab to China whilst on visit to Taiwan*
