Good morning people Finally have enough money to buy my new gaming rig and FINALLY get to play Battlefield 3!!!! I am going to buy all my gear from SCAN Just wondered if anyone could reccommend the best rig I can buy, my budget is about £1000 just want the best value and up to date rig tbh Appreciate any advice you guys have UPDATED SYSTEM http://www.scan.co.uk/savedbasket/75...497fac148816b9 Cheers Ross
Do you need/want and OS or monitor? Do you want a new mouse or keyboard? Prefer ATX or mATX?Need some more info here really. Without that info here is an idea for you. I went for the 660ti over a 7950 purely because you said you wanted to play BF3 and as far as I understand the Nvidia cards are a bit faster on that front. http://www.scan.co.uk/savedbasket/ae5caac1a854403e8a3dfbd263d96ad8 if you don't have any decent speakers then I would also recommend these. You will stay under £1000 too. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/creative-inspire-t10-20-speakers-black-10w-rms
Cheers ALPHA, Sorry for the lack of info I do not need a mouse or keyboard but I do need an OS and a Monitor The 660ti looks good to me mate and that whole rig Cheers Ross
There are a couple of things out of stock on the scan website like te PSU and cooler, is there an alternative you would reccommend?
http://www.scan.co.uk/savedbasket/f709203c8d794d8c8ef922e0a55f9fad What does everyone think of this build? I dont need a case as I already have a decent sized one Cheers Ross
Cooler: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/geli...-1156-1155-and-amd-754-939-940-am2-am2plus-am PSU: Modular http://www.scan.co.uk/products/550w...0-plus-bronze-sli-crossfire-eps-12v-quiet-fan or http://www.scan.co.uk/products/580w...f-80-plus-gold-crossfire-eps-12v-quiet-fan-at or http://www.scan.co.uk/products/680w...80-plus-silver-sli-crossfire-eps-12v-quiet-fa (I would probably go with this, but then I like modular PSUs) Non-modular http://www.scan.co.uk/products/550w...lver-sli-crossfire-eps-12v-quiet-fan-atx-v23- http://www.scan.co.uk/products/620w...-80-plus-bronze-eps-12v-quiet-fan-atx-v23-psu http://www.scan.co.uk/products/730w...-80-plus-bronze-sli-xfire-120mm-quiet-fan-psu http://www.scan.co.uk/products/650w...-bronze-sli-crossfire-eps-12v-quiet-fan-atx-v You will see that most of the good cheap ones are pre-order, that's for a good reason.
Ok thanks, so here is my updated build http://www.scan.co.uk/savedbasket/dfe92c55590c446294cc546d69a12b2b do you think everything is all good? or should I swap a few other things? Everything is in stock also Thanks for your help Ross
Looking at that build I would say this. Can't overclock the CPU Don't get tall memory, more hassle than it's worth and offers no advantages other than aesthetics (If you like that kind of thing) HDD - Seagate - hmmm could be OK but I have found WD to be more reliable. PSU - very nice but overkill - save £40-50 and use it somewhere where it will be noticed. Remember the 6 series Nvidia cards are very power efficient. Monitor - It is probably a piece of crap, OK for word docs and internet browsing but not much else. DO NOT SKIMP HERE - you are buying that 660ti for a reason, to make things look good. Don't ruin that with this monitor. Try this with the money saved from the PSU change and any budget yo have left. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/23-d...hd-hdmi-vga-1920x1080-250cd-m-10001-7ms-black or http://www.scan.co.uk/products/23-d...splayport-1920x1080-10001-300cd-m2-4-port-usb I have this and it's the upgrade that made the most significant difference and best upgrade I think I have made ever http://www.scan.co.uk/products/24-d...isplayport-1920x1200-300cd-m2-10001-8ms-4xusb but I think it may be a little out your price range.
Oh and motherboard - I never like not having heatsinks on my VRMs so maybe look at this http://www.scan.co.uk/products/msi-...-sata-raid-pcie-30-(x16)-d-sub-dvi-d-hdmi-atx or this ( again I would proably go with this) http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asro...1155-ddr3-sata-iii-6gb-s-d-sub-dvi-d-hdmi-atx Oh and remember to register for free shipping with Scan when you get 25 posts on the boards - that will save you another £10 towards that monitor (I can't stress this fact enough - get a decent monitor - you will keep it for 2-3 builds at least)
I take it you mean this one; http://www.scan.co.uk/products/msi-...-sata-raid-pcie-30-(x16)-d-sub-dvi-d-hdmi-atx It's not a bad MB but for the price I would go for; http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asro...i-6gb-s-pcie-30-(x16)-d-sub-dp-dvi-d-hdmi-atx http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus...raid-pcie-30-(x16)-displayport-dvi-d-hdmi-atx http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus...-6gb-s-d-sub-(vga)-displayport-dvi-i-hdmi-atx or If you don't need an ATX sized board then: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asro...3-sata-iii-6gb-s-sata-raid-pcie-30-d-sub-dp-d http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus...gb-s-pcie-30-(x16)-displayport-hdmi-micro-atx (This is what I have) Alternatively you could save some cash as there are many great MB's out there for less just with a few less features, so the question is do you need the features these MB's offer?
I think your right and I have gone for the monitor which you have reccommended, only problem is there doesn't seem to be any PSU's in stock so I am going to have to stick with the one I have. Is it a problem that I cannot overclock the system? What would you change if I will get better value for money and longevity by making it overclockable? http://www.scan.co.uk/savedbasket/751825328750476eb8497fac148816b9 Ross
Well OK if your budget can stretch to the price of that system give me a second and i will configure something.
http://www.scan.co.uk/savedbasket/99fcc32b37a84e13a38a6a6a91388d10 Here is a very powerful mATX rig. I have included a case as I don't know what case you have but again this is important 1 for eaase of build, 2 for noise and 3 for cooling. You don't really need a full ATX rig unless you are going SLI or XFire. 2 more posts here and you get free shipping when you register it. Also if this is too expensive you can change the monitor to a U2312m main difference is 23 is 16x9 while 24 is 16x10 Also what PSU do you have - if it is a cheap generic brand one then get rid of it ASAP as it's likely to blow when any real load is put on it.
Yes Alpha you got the right case So u reckon i should go for the Asus board aye?Do you think the V board would suffice? Also im planning on getting an SSD as well.Do you know much about the corsair ones? Im still pondering between the Force GT and Neutron GTX
Thanks a lot The PSU is a 680W Be Quiet Straight Power E8-CM BN163, Modular, 91%Eff', 80 PLUS Silver, SLI/CrossFire, EPS 12V, Quiet Fan, ATX, PSU One you reccommended I think I am ready to go for it then, will Ibe able to overclock this system when it becomes a bit dated in a couple of years Ross
The board would more than suffice, I built my dad's PC using that board, good features and well laidout. SSDs - now I'm no expert but really I would go for either the Samsung 830 series or the Crucial M4 (personally I would go with the 830 for reliability reasons, although the M4 is also reliable)
what about this PSU? http://www.scan.co.uk/products/650w...-bronze-sli-crossfire-eps-12v-quiet-fan-atx-v also should I change the RAM? Cheers Ross
sorry didn't realise you already changed the RAM for me thanks a lot for all your help, they don't have the PSU which I could overclock in stock, I could always buy a new PSU in a couple of years Cheers Ross
