ok, so i need some advice on cable braiding, as i'm going to be making my first attempt in the new year when i can order stuff from Chilled PC (when they reopen!)

I'm going to be going for an all black look as i just got myself a Cosmos Pure, and i'm going to be doing all my cables black- fans and everything.

i'm fine with diameters and most other cables, but i have a concern over how i'm going to do my PSU.

first off, i am NOT going to open up my power supply. no way. i'm not going to risk electrocution even slightly, just for braiding the cables (i only need to braid the 24pin and the 8 pin as it is modular).

so i was thinking of cutting off the current, almost transparent braiding up to about 2 inches from the unit, braiding the cables individually up to this point, and then heatshrinking over it- opinions on this please.

the next concern i have is in regards to the heating method. how controllable is the shrink using a regular lighter, is a hairdryer viable? i cant really justify buying a heatgun for a one off project.

    1. You don't need to open up your PSU all the way. Lots of people sleeve the wires up to the PSU and then put one big piece of heatshrink there to hold it all together.

    2. Lighters are fine. I do all my sleeving with lighters except colored heatshrink, as the latter tends to look messed up with the sooty residue.Soot doesn't shopw on black so no problem there.

    ok that sounds doable.

in regards to the joins, should i use cable ties under the heatshrink on larger cables too?

If you turn the switch on the PSU off then press the power button on the case it drains all the power from the capacitors and such. No electrocuting! :)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't think every capacitor discharges, I think there's a couple of the dangerous ones which take a couple of weeks to discharge when left.

Correct me if I'm wrong as well. :)

i've got a coolermaster real power pro M850 which has no power switch....

but anyway, im just going to do what i said and leave an inch or so of the old braiding, and heatshrink over the join.
