Can anyone recommend a decent replacement for the Netgear WNR2000 that Virgin give out with their 50Mb package? I want something with pretty decent firmware that will allow me to setup firewall rules such as: external port 2201 -> 192.168.1.2 port 22 external port 2202 -> 192.168.1.3 port 22 All Netgear stuff seems to only let you do direct port to port mappings. Whether it's a cable router that has good firmware out of the box or something I have to flash with DD-WRT (or something similar) I don't mind. TIA,
you can get a linksys wrt54g and flash DD-WRT into it.. cheap way to get a fully functional router- or just get it on ebay pre-flashed http://cgi.ebay.com/LINKSYS-WRT54G-...temQQimsxZ20090401?IMSfp=TL090401151010r34415
I think you can do it on the netgear routers it's just not very obviouse you just create the port mapping for 2201 and then in the IP address box you put 192.168.1.2:22 It's been a while since I've done it so it may not work on your specific model, but it's worth a try.
It's the WRT54G that I've always seen mentioned but I always thought it was an ADSL modem/router. Now I know it's just a normal broadband router that makes it a cheap option as you say! Thanks.
