just a quick Q http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=39541&page=3&pp=20 you can see here that the ending of the sleeving is covered by blue (heatsrink?) How do u get it to srink onto the cable like that? whats the easiest way?
You take off the molex, pop a piece of heatshrink over the wiring and re-apply. The quickest and cheapest way is to use a normal cigarette lighter or, if you've got one, a butane torch. It shrinks easily so keep the flame movng or you'll scorch the rubber.
Also a way to shrink the tubing would be a heat gun. Or, if your wife is into scrpbooking, mooch hers....
I just heatshrunk a bundle of wires on my shuttle's PSU (NOT an easy job) with a pocket butane torch and it did the trick really easily. It's so hot, the flame is no-where near the rubber and all the rubber gets is a stream of hot air. Shrunk a foot in just about 30 seconds with no scorch marks! The end inside the PSU was done with a soldering iron though and that was a very messy finish
And you should be VERY careful when you reassemble the Molex to make sure you have it wired correctly. Unlike this unlucky guy: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=91879
Also, when popping off the molex endings, be careful with the flimsy tabs that hold the pins in the plug, they can break off rather easily.
I find its best to just invest in a good pin remover....I broke none with that, while I broke quite a few using a needel to push them in, and pull them out.
Got the black syrine looking one myself and it's the best £7 I've ever spent! It's really easy to use and nice and heavy.
i've never had a problem taking off molex plugs with a small jewellers screwdriver, but those tools are handy aswell. Its also a good idea with sleeving lines with multiple molex connectors, to tape up the metal pins as to keep them as slim as possible so its easier to get your sleeving and heatshrink over them. If you stagger them in pairs of two it makes it thinner: http://www.bytesector.com/reviews/id-295/img39.jpg Another excellent idea is to melt the ends of the braiding (with a lighter or other flame source ) a little before "threading" them onto the cable - that way they won't frey(sp)
