I'm trying to tidy up the inside of my case to get some nice neat cabling going on, but the 12v 8 pin ATX cable is too short to run behind the motherboard. I'm looking for an extension cable, I've seen the Asaka one on Scan and OcUK, but it appears to only come as an 8pin to 2x4pin, and there's very little room around that area on my MoBo for me to be fiddling around with one plug, never mind two. I spotted this Does anyone know of somewhere I can buy a similarly awesome looking cable in the UK?
$30? who cares about the tidiness of the inside of your machine. as long as it's _relatively_ tidy that's fine. the OCD pics you see in mods are only cool because the windows are nicely designed and the insides are lit.
The 8-> 2x4 could be turned into an 8->8 with a small application of superglue and if it's going to be hidden behind the Mobo it doesn't really matter what it looks like. Moriquendi
I have an Antec 900 Two, so yes I have a window, although that particular part of the MoBo is not visable, the cable running across it is as shown here I need an extension to route the cable behind the MoBo and out the top slot to reach the header. It doesn't need to look great but I don't mind spening a bit more for a cool braided cable like that. Also here is a close up of the space I had to squeeze my hand into to plug it in. I was planning to get a nice cold cathode to light it up so i want it to look as tidy as possible.
you can run that under the video card (between PCIE slot and bracket) and then tuck it between the fan and mobo. should look a lot neater. try that way!
I have exactly the same problem as you, I somehow managed to stretch it just far enough to make it go behind, but I'm not happy with it. As such, your question got me thinking I have found this, which is cheaper than the one you linked above; should you want it braided you could always buy some of this. I'm just going to put an order through myself, so if you decide you don't want to buy it yet you can always wait for me to post back what I think of it. EDIT: Maybe not, its out of stock atm, so will order it when it comes in.
http://www.coolermaster.nl/shop/product_info.php?products_id=253 ta da, they come with coolermaster 932 cases as standard
IDave, I have the exact same case as you and use the Akasa extension which I got from scan and have had no problems fitting it. Excuse the pic quality, I used my camera phone. This is the 12v 8 pin ATX cable connected: This is it from the back of the motherboard (with the Akasa 12v 8 pin ATX extension cable shown): And as you can see even though I'm not using a modular PSU it's still fairly easy to make a pretty neat job: A couple of tips though when fitting the extension, you may find it easier to move or remove the motherboard to give you some room to get the cable in. Yes its a pain in the arse but it is worth the effort. Secondly, there is a gap between the top fan and the motherboard tray so feed the Akasa extension cable through the gap here towards the centre of the top fan. Feed the female end through first (marked on the drawing below) as its narrower than the male end. Another tip is try not to cross over cables behind the motherboard and it should be easy to get the side panel back on. I hope this helps.
IDave, I'm impressed with what your computer looks like now. But I understand how one wire could get under your skin with a clear panel. I just posted help on cable management too, to make you feel better you can look at my computers I just did. Still no where near your neatness, but I also spent no money and did what I could. http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=168982
It was this one: http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=557927 It does actually split to a 2x4pin. I hope this helps IDave.
