The holographic has better assisted aim (I read). But accuracy is supposed to be better with red dot (due to smaller size). Although weirdly I was shooting somone in the face with the FAL last night who was hiding behind a car and it just wouldn't play ball. Read online it shoots slighly down with that gun (which makes me think it wasn't just me).
I don't really go for full mastery on any weapon, get it up to the point where I have unlocked everything (except the paintwork) and usually get marksman VI on a weapon before moving onto the next one. Getting extended mags always takes ages. Penetration kills are hard to get when your actively seeking them lol. So many times I have seen a guy with his head poking out only to start shooting through the barrel/wall/crate/etc he is hiding behind and then getting head shot myself. I didn't know holo was any more accurate but I like ACOG better anyway, I prefer more long distance sights as if someone is close enough for you not to need ACOG, you probably wont have enough time to pull up sights anyway if they see you.
Maybe on the consoles, the PC version doesn't have aim assist. I'm pretty sure that's only for certain weapons - I mainly use the ACR and I haven't noticed a difference. I actually prefer the red dot sight as it gives a wider field of view and the smaller reticle makes it easier to track targets at range. The easiest way to get extended mags with bullet penetration kills (especially on SMGs where they're most useful and hardest to get) is to wait on or below the metal catwalks you can see through on certain maps. Particularly good spots for this are the roof on Sub Base and the building near the large car park on Underpass. A few games camping in those spots will get you most of the way there, otherwise it takes me several hours to get them.
The snipers are quite difficult to do extended mags for. Took about 350 kills with my Barrett before I got it although you could probably do it within 100. (Kinda sucks how you only get 1000 points for it as well.) In terms of Red Dot versus Holo, I remember talking about it on ARMA II (about the ARMA II versions) with my clan and nearly everyone except me prefered the RDS but I just find it way too large while the Holo has precision and still retains the ability to be found quickly. (Although the absolute worst one for me is the chevrons like the old ACOG.)
It's reasonably useful on Wasteland for spotting snipers in the grass. I've been owned with it a few times. And the building at the south end of Scrapyard, sitting up there while people wander through the door and wonder where they've been killed from is always good fun
Tonight I found my new favorite gun, the F2000! holy crap I'm a beast with it - had 34 headshots thru 100 kills. I use it silenced with a holographic sight and I haven't had a round yet where I had less than a 1.75 kdr and 17 kills (TDM express). Its a terribly odd gun when you first use it but when you find that groove its the best medium-short range gun in the game IMO
Personally I say use - until you unlock the underslung shotgun... its a cheap way to play otherwise. The other day I had a few matches against a "clan" that all had one man army pro / danger close and two classes with noobtubes so as to achieve infinite ammo with the noobtube. Needless to say it was slaughter of me and my team because they were all quite skilled with the weapon. NOT cool.
I really don't like the One Man Army Perk. I know the game isn't realistic but how can a soldier magic a new kit from nothing? I have a BOOM BOOM class that uses an assault rifle with M203, a javelin, grenade/semtex/C4/claymore and has scavenger, danger close and another perk that I change depending on what I want to upgrade. It leads to an excessive amount of explosions.
that's what im also wondering. i always want to find a safe spot but usually the game ends before i actually get a chance to use it.
you mean this? i was seriously considering buying the game to try out the multi up until i saw this vid. there are too many exploitable things imo.
Yeah thats the kit, honestly its not quite as easy as he makes it seem, but it is ridiculously powerful. he is right that you dont see it around often but I can say he is probably right when he says a time will come soon when it does get VERY popular. I can imagine were going to have to start playing mercenary TDM to avoid it.
Wow I haven't seen that yet...that is pretty game-breaking to be honest. Hopefully someone at IW will pick up on it soon.
get grenade launcher and one man army to swap your class, so unlimited grenade which can be really useful in demolition
yep, not easy at all. i was playing in a party with evoyear and he tryed that combo, failed with worse kill-death ratio than my stealthy approach. although i did find the following work fantastic for flanking moves. -Tar with heartbeat sensor and silencer -Bling, cold blood, ninja pro. and do all the flanking you want behind enemy lines.
Bah, everyone with all their perks. I use the basics with most stuff just sleight of hand, stopping power etc. I would get embarrassed if I had to use perks and kill streaks to ''own the server''. I prefer aim and my own tactical wit and trickery. All the other stuff is fluff. I guess this is a CS 1.6 and UT99/2k3/2k4 ex-clan player talking but still. And if your playing it on the X-box and think you're 'good' you are probably about the level of a noob compared to us PC players. True story.
