    Hi, my rig is this;

    I5 750 @ 3.8Ghz,
    4GB DDR3 1600 @ 1530 (ish)
    ATI (AMD) 4830 512mb.
    3 x 7200rpm 3.5in HDD's
    1 x SATA DVD Drive
1 x PCI Wireless Network Card.

Just wondered as i am starting to get problems when trying to load BFBC2. Loads fine until i want to start playing the game itself. (i.e.. I can see the gun and shoot it) which for some reason as soon as that happens I loose network connection. Then 20 seconds later, BFBC2 quits to desktop with no error reports etc.

Any ideas, the only thing I can put it down to is either 1. Virus 2. Corrupt Game (been playing it for 6 months with no problem) 3. PSU is dying.

Sounds daft but have you tried loading it all up without the network card installed? Or maybe unplugging a couple of HDDs. Seems you need to do a simple bit of component isolation if you think it's the PSU...

    I'm running whatever's in my sig on a pre-80plus 480W unit.

OP: I doubt that your problem is PSU-related.

Exactly, have you updated your video card drivers? Re-installed the game? Do those things first becuase they're a hell of a lot cheaper than a new PSU.

I had that issue too on my 5850, except i run a 850w PSU. I think it is an ATI issue tbh and there is most definatly a fix for it out there. Cant remember exactly but a freind of mine talked me through it on TS one night.

Keep at it man, you will find the soloution but i really dont think its your PSU.

fixed the problem, updated the drivers to the latest version and all seems to be good

just dont understand, i can work exactly as it is for 6 months then suddenly need a driver update

    PSU Calculator says 393w usage.

Game could have updated, caused an issue with that current driver. New driver to sort out bugs or something.

In addition, Microsoft patches could have given the ATI drivers a problem. These things can be a vicious circle sometimes.

Not the power supply calculators again...

The Corsair will have no problem whatsoever when it comes to powering this setup.

However, your other problem. Does this happen with any other game? The most likely thing is an incompatibility of some sort, due to an update or something else. I'd try reinstalling the game, and if that doesn't work, I'd move on to reinstalling the drivers.

I've put a watt meter on my system (see sig) and at max load it draws about 250w from the mains. Admittedly its not overclocked, but i've got a much hungrier gfx card.

400w is fine for that system.

Everyone is selling 1KW power supplies, it is really overstating what people actually use.

Get a power meter that tells you how much you are drawing from the wall and you would notice that computers use a lot of electricity than most people think.

I have an i7 930 @ 3.8Ghz and a 5970 @ 850mhz. How much does it use at idle and load? You might think that gota break 500W or something but in reality it only draws about 200W idle and only about 400W load. I need prime95 and furmark at the same time to touch 500W.

I do have a 80+ gold rated power supply so I guess people with lower certification power supplies can see a much higher power draw with the same wall meter.
