Swine Flu is picking up here very slowly. One of the advantages of being 3rd world craphole, i suppose. 6 cases so far, none deceased yet. That's in spite of horrid medical care for the majority of people. In the major cities, the thing hasn't (to the best of my knowledge) spread yet. Mind - the missus is sick for the last couple of days... hope i don't catch it... i need an xbox to play on first... Word of advice: You know you have swine flu (no need for the doc), if you have an insatiable urge to have sex in mud... it's a sure fire giveaway... Guys - get better
It's weird, I really would rather not get swine flu, but on the other hand, I'm kind of morbidly interested simply so that I can shut my panicking family up. For a few weeks now they have been in full on pandemic mode and it's the only conversation they have now. Me in the corner silenced for being so relaxed about this crisis we are having.
Fixed that for you. If you are going to be something, be something you can spell! Me = Geek. spells easier too. john
Great. I woke up this morning feeling crap, and called in sick Then I got a call from work saying that if I could make it in, could I come in - As there was a shed load of work to do ready for tomorrow's second cycle of testing. Get in, do a little - still feeling crap. Then I get a tap on the shoulder from our Business Continuity Manager. "You feel bad?" "Yep" "Flu-like?" "Yep" "OK - go home, and see your GP straight away. This is in strict confidence, but it's been confirmed we have Swine flu in this building and on your floor" Long and short of it is that by telephone the GP has confirmed that I have pig flu, and has prescribed Anti-Virals What I can't understand is work's attitude to it all - keep it all quiet. NHS says that if you're not presenting, go to work. If you are, get the treatment. It's not good trying to keep it all hush hush. It's a frigging pandemic, FFS. Ah well. I may feel like a bag'o'shite, but at least I get to watch the first Ashes test now. (107 for 3 at the moment, Pieterson has just this minute hit a four. )
You'll be fine. If I were you though, don't take the Tamiflu... it didn't help and made me feel even worse.
Keep the Tamiflu till the disease gets worse and sell it to finish the gooster just as people start to mutate.... I think i've played to many computer games.
FFS! Don't go around giving people medical advice, pls. It may or may not have helped you, but if the docs prescribe it someone, I would strongly suggest they listen to the medical professionals and not the bloke on teh internets.
Either way, knock it off. I'm short sighted, but that doesn't mean I should tell someone to stop wearing glasses without a full understanding of that case. Tamiflu might not have helped you, but that doesn't mean it won't help save someone else's life - so leave the medical advice to the professionals and consider this a warning on the topic. That said, anybody who comes to the internet and trusts anonymous individuals for advice on potentially lethal infections probably has no chance to start with... If anybody wants serious medical advice on Swine Flu then they should consult their doctor, not a bunch of computer enthusiasts who extrapolate from personal experience.
Speaking to my sister yesterday who works in a GP surgery, she said there no longer swabbing for swine flu, and if you have the symptoms your now given a voucher for the drugs, and considered pig-poor-positive.
To anyone who currently has the swine flu, what were the early symptoms (as in the first day you starting feeling ill)? Im asking because my girlfriend's collegue has the swine flu and now my girlfriend is feeling a bit ill but I'm going to wait until later tonight or tomorrow before I take any action. She is bring up quite a bit of flem too.
For me, it was: Past couple of days - general tiredness / lethargy Last night - upset stomach (Diarrhoea) This morning - Bad flu symptoms - achy limbs, sore throat, headache, elevated temp (feeling hot and cold) The nail in the head was the fact that I have been in contact with people that have got or suspected of having the virus. The BBC has an article under the health section about people buying anti flu drugs over the internet. Getting anything from distilled water to rat droppings in their pkgs. I've had my GP for 20 yrs. and she just said if any of us get the symptoms to call her and she would call the pharmacy. Don't come in at all. john
Well, the gf has been diagnosed by a doctor over the phone (and further questions when I picked up Tamiflu from my surgery). However a word of caution. Unless one has swabs taken for testing one cannot be 100% certain that they have swine flu. The government only has 80 million sets of capsules available (enough for one per person plus an extra dose for essential workers (nurses, doctors, police, government, army etc). What that means it everybody is limited to one set (of 10 capsules) per season. So if one is suspected of having swine flu now and takes their Tamiflu but then has the real swine flu in October they cannot have any more tablets. Likewise if one has the swine flu now and it mutates and one gets the mutated swine flu in October, they cannot get another set of Tamiflu. Basically you have to make the decision of whether to use your dose of Tamiflu now or put up with the current strain (which you can survive without Tamiflu) and if you get the mutated strain which could potentially be worse you may be stuffed. Unless they find a cure in time.
I don't think that is true...at least based on my conversation with a friend who is part of the public health team that is addressing pandemic in Sheffield, and it goes against what my colleague (whose two daughters are recovering) was told. There are 80m doses, but that is 40 sets of the 2 doses that are usually required for treatment. Another 80m(?) doses are on order, and I think they will be here by the end of the year. There will also be an increasing number of vaccines towards the autumn - currently undergoing trials. Although you are right that a telephone diagnosis is sketchy, and that lab testing is really required. However, there is no decision to be made as to if and when to take the Tamiflu or Relenza. If it is prescribed, you take as prescribed. If you are wrongly diagnosed, and subsequently get infected later in the year, you will be treated again - I'm not qualified to say whether you will get more Tamiflu or another treatment, but it's certainly not a case that you have one bite at the cherry. Can we please all stop issuing medical advice, however well intended it is. If you are (suspected of being) infected, you will receive treatment instructions and other advice from the health professionals.
I doubt they'll ration the tamiflu at this stage, but at the same time this is a mild flu and the seasonal flu will likely be much worse were you to catch it. The prescriptions being doled out are standard containment procedure this is now way passed containment so the medical advice is boiler plate response not a matter of "However, there is no decision to be made as to if and when to take the Tamiflu or Relenza. If it is prescribed, you take as prescribed." Since your not prescribed it after a proper examination by your normal physician. My mother in law (MD) has just finished a very detailed flu study and from what she says there are many more flu strains to be worried about than this one. Imo do as you please but i'd personally weight the advice of a medical practitioner over a random forum geek.....
Way to go inciting panic and fear!! Not sure it's really your place to make a statement like that with really quite extraordinary implications if true to be honest......
