i currently have an asus eah4870 1gb card. i am considering buying another 4870 1gb off ebay, which will last me until the new gen cards come out. firstly, i have not been able to find any pre-owned (im not prepared to pay for a new one) asus 1gb cards. however there are various other makes on ebay. such as this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Palit-Rad...TV_Cards_TW&hash=item4cfad5ae27#ht_530wt_1396 the seller says the palit one is the 'highest performing' of the 4870's. can anyone vouch for this? secondly, how much fps increase would i be expecting by adding another 4870? also, if anyone is thinking of selling a 4870 1gb, if it turns out i can mix brands, then id be interested. or if anyone knows where i can get a pre owned one in good condition oh yeah and lastly, would 650w be enough to power them? i used this psu calculator thing to find out how much power im using, and it came out at about 450w recommended psu for my CURRENT SYSTEM (this seems awfully low to me) but whatever
how do you mean? are you talking about cards with a factory overclock? i thought unless the card had that, the only difference between brands was the cooler or literally just the brand name
hello sir, I think your going to need a bigger psu. Something like an xfx 850watt with a 70amp 12volt rail should do you, £85 on ebay.
Basically graphic card have memory/shader/core clocks speeds. Most brand cards come with some kind of factory overclock and mnay people then further overclock there cards. If you have two card in crossfire then if one card has something clocked at say 800mhz and the other is set a 900 then that card will "downclock" to match the other cards 800. You could overclock that 800mhz card up to 900mhz assuming it stably runs at that and then both card will run at 900. You can mixs and match any brand of the same reference card. 650W would be fine for two cards. Performance boost. Depending on the quality of the crossfire profiles 80-90%.
xxxsonic do not plug in a piece of kit which you just so happen to have for sale on ebay A post I just found on your profile. "Hello all, Can anyone please tell me what bitcoin mining is in laymans terms? I've seen a few articles online about it but it gets too technical. Many thanks. (i7 920@3.2, h70, 6gbram, 5850crossfire, xfx850psu)"
hello mucgoo, i think you understood me wrong sir, i have no psu- or anything else for sale on ebay. I own an xfx 850w psu, that i bought from ebay, its a great bit of kit, and its not for sale lol. happy days.
i have just learnt not only can i combine brands, but i can actually combine cards of the same series?? some people have 4870 and 4890 in crossfire, but the 4890 doesnt even downclock! read the thread below http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/262849-15-4890-crossfired-4870 this is interesting. i may bid on that 4890 linked earlier now, if the 4890 wont downclock maybe its luck of the draw whether yours does or not
oh hang on lol, i dont think my psu has enough connectors for crossfire. i need two 6 pins per card. i only have the two needed for my current one. here is my psu http://www.antec.com/Believe_it/product.php?id=NjY= connectors http://www.antec.com/Believe_it/connectors.php?ProdID=27650 fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
Sorry for being a bit harsh there. Nothing wrong with suggesting a suitable component but given its actually cheaper on scan and your likely get better customer service there it does look a bit odd.
