    Heya,

I currently have a wired lan connecting 2 imacs and 2 PCs through a router. We want to upgrade to wireless networking and need to be able to share the internet connection and share printing and file resources.

At the moment we are unsure if the imacs will be compatible with wireless networking when shared with PC's. We also would appreciate recommendations on routers/adapters which will allow us to achieve all of the above.

    PLEASE HELP!

    Regards,
    Rob.

errm, i think just as long as you use the same protocols it'll work. I remember reading it in a networking book a while back, but can't remember.

Well standard networks work fine. So I guess as long as you can get a wireless adapter for the macs, it'd work fine :thumb:

can you suggest any wireless adapters that'd work with iMac's though?

    MacWireless

But you can use any USB wireless adapter that comes with MAC drivers.

Yes. They both support 802.11b which is the specification detailing how they should communicate. Don't forget though that you will need an 802.11b access point or router as well.

They won't talk to each other, just to a wireless device specified as an access point. (well maybe there is a way to get them to talk, but out of the box and under warrenty it won't happen)

what operating system do you have on the imacs?
are they slot loading? cos if they are you could just get the airport cards and if you can source some adapters and use that and apple airport software. in fact i think that's the only way to do it in os9
