May I ask, out of pure curiosity, how much you're paying for it, and where from?

Have you thought about something like a PS Vita instead, as that will play games at much higher quality.

It'll barely run Windows Vista, let alone any games! You don't have to spend £1000 dude, I built a gaming PC for £100 not so long ago!

This is not suitable I assure you for almost any game especially on vista - first half life will be okay most likely but personally: Do not buy this if you want to play games, that is a netbook it is only 11.6 inch. That is TINY for games. This also means that the device will not hold any good hardware - that is such an out of date equipment you may only pay sub £100 and the battery will probably be worn down too if you get it from ebay.

    _--Recommendation

Gaming low settings on a notebook is possible without spending £1,000. I currently have a notebook which is a 15.6" i5 notebook which has a ATI graphics card and a power saving 15 GPU, decent DDR3 RAM and I picked it up on ebay for £300. That laptop can play games like starcraft 2, left 4 dead 2, team fortress 2 etc on low/mediums happily.

Now, you won't be able to get that much of a bargin every day however if you go for a 15.6" laptop around the £200-300 range you can get a nice i3 core laptop which has a decent onboard GPU to run old games. The main concern is your budget - the more specific the better as say £250 vs £350 is a lot more laptop.

Is there any main reason why you are going for a notebook over desktop?

my only other option is a mini itx pc but i cant take it around

and parge i saw your thread that was really good that you managed it but i dont think i casn do it, i dont think i can get good quality parts for those prices and i dont think anyone is going to be willing to give out freebies of course if i can do it for that much then thats awesome

Err, yes you can, I could do that again tomorrow easily, and now it’s a year on, with better quality parts.

You can get a case from the tip for free, there are loads. Radeon 4850 for £20, PSU for £20, Core 2 Duo E6300 for a tenner, cooler for a fiver, any old HD for a £10 (easy to find), 2GB of RAM for £15

That’s £80 all in. Leaves you £20 for an old 15” LCD monitor (if you live in London, I have one you can have here)

The last 3 or 4 that came up on the Marketplace here in Bit Tech went for £20 a piece. Hell, I think even two 4890s went for £25 each the other week.

Just checked ebay and there are loads that have gone for £20-£25. Like this one

And no, the case wont be. There are specific metal recycling bays. You might have to climb over an old TV to get it, but they will be fine. Either that or look on gumtree which is where I picked up mine.

:D 4850 5750 6750 7750 9800gtx gts250 gts450 4870 5770 5830 6770 gtx260/275/280 gtx460 gtx550TI. These are all very good cards which may now be found for bargain prices, all are of a relatively similar speed and still very capable. Perhaps you could get a deal on a Shuttle, esp an older 775 based one? That would give some portability and most of the advantages of a regular desktop.

Have you got access to the marketplace here yet? Think you need 75 posts or more. Things come up on there.

In the meantime what about this?

The most important thing when building a cheap PC is to have a little patience and wait for the bargains to come up.

That laptop nimbu will be fine for simple portable gaming no problem. Battery life will probably be cack though.

However, It doesn't come with Windows, and the keyboard is ANSI layout - different enter key, a few symbols moved about compared to UK ISO layout. Just bear that in mind but otherwise a good find (I think so anyway, although the last time I really researched budget gaming laptops was about 3 years ago so get a confirmation)

Os wont be problem, have a retail W7HP somewhere here.

The two things that are putting me off are:

    1) CPU, though from what I am reading in theory it will be faster then the desktop im using as im between builds atm (E8300 and GT), though im going to be playing eve and maybe some d3. I'm no stranger to running everything at low to squeeze a few more FPS.

    2) Keyboard layout: This is the big one for me, though a friend seems to think that the X53 keyboards are the same and I have found one of those for 20 on ebay too.

Gonna mull it over for another day I think. It was on HUKD but at £279.00 I think, but the interest tailed off when the price went up.

I have been looking about and I cannot find anything with a similar GPU at that kinda price.
