I think this is all pretty obvious and straightforward. But if someone had time to give a nod of approval, it would reassure me. Haven't built from scratch before.

    i5-2500k
    p8p67 pro
Corsair Vengeance 1600 (2x4gb) (I think there will be enough space using slots 2 and 4)
    Gelid Tranquillo
    Fractal Design R3
    Crucial RealSSD M4 120gb
    Spinpoint F3 1tb
    Samsung DVD R/RW
    MSI GTX560 ti Frozr II
    650W Antec Truepower New

Uses of computer: almost solely for gaming, currently at 1680x1050. The SSD will be for Windows and for Steam games (I realise that I will periodically need to purge completed games by moving the local content to free up space -- not a problem, I rarely have more than four or five on the go at once).

Overclocking: probably, although it is another thing I haven't done before.

A quick yes or no, would be great.

    Thanks,
    jhng

    All looks fine!

With any Fractal R3 build I would suggest including at least 2 fans. A Scythe Gentle Typhoon rated at 1850RPM for the rear and also a Be Quiet! USC Silentwings for the bottom (insure the bottom of the case is on a hard surface so it can intake cool air, carpet is a no no!). Especially with the Frozr you will need a good exhaust card and the Scythe fits the bill perfectly whilst the Be Quiet can channel cool air towards the GPU.

Does a tranquilo definitely clear the vengeance heatspreaders?

No, however slots 2 and 4 are away from the cooler by a hairs breadth!

That is my rig apart from I have a GTX 460, the non pro p8p67, smaller M4 and a Sony dvd.

I can say it is a great set up. You will be really happy with it :thumb:

The only thing I will be changing on mine is the tranquillo because I have very high ambient temps and I wish to overclock higher so I will be switching to either a Corsair H50 or Antec 620 at some point.

I would have liked to try the Dark Rock Advanced cooler but the heatsinks on the vengeance ram are too tall.

edit: I bought some extra fans, a Fractal 120mm, 140mm and a Enermax 140mm for extra cooling but you may not need them for your build. I do have very high ambient temps.

You are unable to use slot 1 on the p8p67 with Vengeance ram and a Tranquillo.

Slot 2 has 1mm clearance. To run dual channel requires slot 2 and 4 to be occupied so having slot 1 out of action doesn't really matter.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I will swap in the Coolermaster Gold as murraynt suggests, looks much better, and will add a couple of extra fans as suggested by Blogins.

On the RAM/Cooler interface, I will swap to the Corsair XMS3 which should fit in more comfortably. I originally went for the Vengeance for the sake of lower operating voltage, but it would be better to have more space.

    Thanks all,
    jhng

Thanks, but I went for the 560 Ti in the end. I would rather have the newer card, to be honest. Particularly as gpus get old so quickly.

Everything ordered and I will put it together at the weekend. Fingers crossed...

Well, I built it and it worked (so far).

Many thanks for the helpful suggestions. Now for the overclocking...

For 1680x1050 a 560TI will be more than enough, 480 would be overkill especially considering the heat.

That's really too bad haver a look at this:
    http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

and the card I suggested has a after market cooler and huge pre OC.

I've never really considered Passmark 3D benchmarks to be much use when considering actual gaming framerates. if a 560TI is great for 1920x1080 in most games, then at 1680x1050 it will be even better.
