Well... Hopefully this will grow into my first actual case mod but I have a question first of all...

Can you pop rivet acrylic to aluminium?

    Many thanks!

ideally not, because the impact of the rivet would crack the acrylic.

    Aye I thought so...

Would it not be possible to place a washer on so the pressure is spread as you rivet it?

Failing that, in the cube build a chap had little "boxes" which had three screw sockets in them allowing you to attach three panels...

Any idea what they are or where I could get them?

Sincere apologies for the horrific noobness.

Noobness is good although might be the wrong place to put it

thing is acrylic is such a brittle material is never going to be structurally sound with rivets

The cube he made himself i've seen it done a gillion times im not so fond on it but it keeps the case 100% acrylic i guess, there just:

Acrylic square bar cut down into cubes then drilled and have "Brass threaded inserts" in them you might find them in hobby shops the reason he uses those is because its impossible to keep a thread in acrylic without it tearing and loosing the tightness on the screw

if you need anymore help feel free to message me :)

Ive found that a fiber washer under the head and a fiber + a steel washer on the back works well.

I just tested it and it worked flawlessly with 3mm rivets on extruded acrylic. Use washers and thick acrylic to support heavier loads. Acrylic is brittle so it won't hold tension well. Compression (like the one from the rivets) is ok. If it is critical that small cracks won't show, put the alu on top of the acrylic.

Perhaps you could use a small rubber washer between the acrylic and rivet to help soften the blow?

Also this thread probably belongs in modding.

I use pop rivets all the time on plexiglas. -Just remember to use aluminum rivets, not steel ones.
