Anyone have any good suggestions? I searched the forums and the only Canadian acrylic supplier that was suggested turned out to be crap; they have to special order fluorescent panels and you have to buy it by the 48"x96" sheet. Ummm, no. I can get extruded locally but same story with cell cast, special order large quantities only. I emailed Delvies a couple days ago to see if they would ship USPS to Canada, no reply yet. If you get stuff shipped UPS you'd better supply your own lube, because they're going to bend you over and be rough about it. For case mod stuff the only Canadian place I knew of was bigfootcomputers and they don't appear to exist anymore. Frozencpu has a nice selection and will ship USPS to Canada so that's one option, but even without UPS international shipping is pretty brutal. Still, if all else fails I'd appreciate knowing about any other US stores with USPS shipping.
Check out PerformancePCs. They ship via USPS and in fact recommend it for international shipping. They have quite a good selection and carry the ACRyan line of uv acrylic panels, mesh and aluminum panels.
For Delvie's I think USPS doesn't handle the oversize packages like 2'x4'. (I could be wrong) -at any rate, they won't handle them KINDLY. I honestly don't know why shipping to Canada is expensive. It's not like it's far away or something. Did you guys build a fence to keep us out yet?
I don't know why it sucks so bad, but suck it does. I priced out a psu from Frozencpu and the cheapest USPS shipping was $38 I can just imagine what it would be like for 35 lbs of acrylic.
Delvies just emailed me back, they do in fact use USPS for all their Canadian shipping. They're going to get back to me with a quote, so I'll be able to update with some solid info for my northern modding brothers
ya not only do we have to pay more for shipping but we gotta then pay taxes for importing it to canada. lucky for me im 15-20 miles from the U.S. border and have a P.O. Box across in a town just a few miles over the border. So if I buy anything that gets shipped by USPS I send it there. If it needs to go by UPS there is a shipping depot in that town that I can ship stuff to by UPS or Fedex but the bad thing is I have to go during the week to get it.
rls669 , where are you in Canada? for acrylic or polycarbonate I usually shop here >> http://www.plasticworks.ca for metal I shop here >> http://www.metalsupermarkets.com/
I'm in SK . . . I looked at plasticworks, their website is terrible, even their pdf catalogue has no details whatsoever about colours and prices. I guess I could email them to see what they have and what their shipping policy is. Metals I can find locally unless I need something really exotic.
i know whan i built my acrylic case i used a local company here in ottawa called Canus Plastics. Not sure if they ship though but my sheet of plastic was around $100 for 1/4"
What size of sheet, type of acrylic, what colour? I don't have enough information to know if that's a good deal or not. It seems like most Canadian suppliers only stock low-end stuff. When I asked for cell cast it was exactly like the scene in Terminator when he walks into the gun shop and asks for a phased-plasma rifle
Just a bit of warning about Performance PCs and maybe all US suppliers to Canada, I ordered my Lian Li from them to try and save $20, and got stuck with a $60 border brokerage fee on top of my $60 shipping charge, and ended up costing more to get it to me than the case was worth in the first place. The border is BS, don't buy big stuff from out of the country.
Which shipping method did you use? I haven't had extra brokerage fees with USPS. With UPS, every time.
ya dont do UPS over the border as they charge brokerage fees. Just do USPS and you just pay the taxes on it.
That's expensive... (I'm betting they charged you for the odd shape they had to cut out of the sheet. A standard sheet is 4' by 8' or 9')
Got a shipping quote from Delvies, worked out to $1/lb for USPS shipping to Canada. Their website shows the shipping weight for each sheet so there you go, easy enough to figure out in advance. The relatively cheap shipping makes this a very good deal for Canadians.
