PDF here. Looks like 5-10% off some gear, on average. 40D body only for around $1k after the rebate...

unfortunately not the 24-70/2.8L I've had my eye on recently. Actually maybe that's a good thing

Even better. This is what happens when I quote prices from memory. My wallet is quite happy that I convinced myself some time ago that the 40D wouldn't be enough of an upgrade unless it only cost me about $200 to make the jump.

Canon just put their lens prices up, or are about I think anyway, so the rebate probably brings them back in line with what they were :p

Yeah, but keep in mind that the US is a heavily discounted market due to the overall volume. So while the prices might drop there, they might raise the prices worldwide. Also the rebates are mainly for L series lenses which have a lower sales volume over the lower range lenses, so this might be a push to raise sales numbers on specific lenses for a specific time frame; while raising the prices of the overall lineup.

They did not increase all product prices, just a few...mostly on stuff the average person couldn't afford in the first place such as super teles (300 2.8, 400 2.8, 500 f/4, 600 f/4 etc etc), but some accessory prices were also slightly affected.

Yeah, but remember, not everyone here is in the US. And often retailers have to adjust prices based on exchange rates. So while Canon USA just increased the super teles, I'm pretty sure prices have jumped world wide, especially places with floating currencies against the Dollar and Euro. I know that here in SA, Canon and Nikon are repricing monthly due to the Rand/Euro. But in the GCC, the prices are stable (25% over US prices) because most currencies are pegged to the Dollar.

In the GCC? Well, so far Kuwait is the only one to float their currency, the Dinar. Everyone else is still in.

Yes, OTOH this thread is based on US Rebates...therefor I really don't see any relevance in mentioning other countries and their economies. I assumed he was speaking of price increases within the US (the 5-7% price increases everyone was terrified of).
