Okay, I downloaded ubuntu (64bit version) off the official site, and since it can run as a live CD (it uses system RAM as a temp HDD AFAIK), I thought I'll let it go for a spin. Rebooted into it, and of course it hangs when loading the kernel. I'm thinking thats fine, I'll go back into XP and surf the forums to see if other ppl have a similar prob (actually, this problem isn't unique).

But there's a catch. I'm about to reach the login screen, and instead of seeing that, I see a blank black screen. Yikes. I've tried safe mode which works - everything seems to be fine. Just I can't boot into normal XP. This is currently on the new conroe rig (see sig), and I've put everything back to stock speeds and such. Still no dice. I'm currently typing this in safe mode running out of ideas. Any input guys?

I have had the same problem but mine was caused by the fact that my primary moniter is connected by DVI and I guess ubuntu does not like DVI. My VGA connected moniter works fine. If you have two moniters I would guess because it not displaying on your primary moniter.

Yup, got it working - I swapped the DVI cables on the X1900XT and I've never been so glad to see the desktop before, lol. Thanks a million, kbates666 =D!
