Are you trying to flash it through the BIOS?
Why not create a DOS bootable USB stick and flash it that way? (Let me know if you need instructions)

Also why are you flashing in the first place? To fix a problem or keeping updated for the sake of it.

fixing a problem (and yes flash through bios)

1/2 the time the machine is cold started it needs to be unplugged before it`ll boot properly ; bios on it is original and the machine is using an FX chip

Obvious check I am sure you have checked already but it never harms to check:
    • Correct version of new BIOS from manufacturer (I always forget to get the B3 version for mine for example)
    • File isnt corrupt on your selected upgrade medium
    • Checked for an in winows version?
    • If there is a windows alternative make sure to check clear DMI data and over write previous.
    • Tried leaving it unplugged and without battery for a while to clear all existing data?

Just the first few that come to my head.

    Matt

Edit:Clicky for the newest BIOS updates from Asus for that board.

Also are you going from the previous version or an older one. if you are going from one more than one generation old trying upgrading in sequence.

If the BIOS file is on an NTFS disc, EZFlash will see it but won't be able to access it. If you dump it on a USB stick, you should be laughing.

I typed this in a rush. Feel free to ask me to clarify anything.

Use either guide to create a DOS-USB stick
    http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/191416-dos-usb-boot-drive.html
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/csstwpla...create-a-ms-dos-bootable-usb-flash-drive.aspx

Once you've done that download BUPDATER from ASUS.
Place it in the root folder of the USB stick.
Place your new BIOS file in the root folder as well.
It might be a good idea to rename it. Stick to 8 characters max.

Restart Pc and restore current BIOS to default settings. Save and exit.
Boot from your DOS USB. Pressing F8 or F12 at the BIOS screen should bring up the boot device selection screen.
    Boot from flash drive.
A screen that looks like command prompt should come up.
    First we'll backup the BIOS
Type in, without quotes, "BUPDATER /oOLDBIOS.ROM"
BUPDATER will run. At the end it will prompt you to press any key and it will return you to the DOS screen. Now you will have a file saved to your flash drive called "OLDBIOS"
    Next type in "BUPDATER /iNEWBIOS.ROM"
Where NEWBIOS is whatever you named the file for the BIOS before.
Follow the prompts and you should be done. If when done and it send you back to the DOS screen then press Ctrl+Alt+Del and it should restart you computer.
Load defaults in the BIOS once again. Save & exit.
See if PC is running fine and your problems are fixed.

    This may help

EDIT: I didn't realise people had posted while I was typing. Jinq-sea may be right.
