Windows Can't get into an online game of Battlefield Bad Company2

Hi,

Can you help?

When trying to join multiplayer map online - only gets as far as loading the initial screen with weapon and team/ squad options etc.

I click to enter the game. Then it just hangs and exits to the main game screen (menus, etc)

The single player works fine and I can play any other game i have bought (including recent ones.)

The game is fully patched to the latest version.

SYS SPEC is single core athlon and 9600gto, 2bg ram
as i said I can play ANY other game online (COD4, Empire Total War) on good settings.
what can i try to get this working?

Can you join a LAN game you've hosted? Have you unblocked your ports?

 

i will try to unblock ports , but i haven't had to for any other games including other battlefield ones.

 

Always worth a try, any luck with a LAN game? That'd narrow it down a little.

 

TBH matey, a single core and only 2GB of RAM with BC2... don't think it's going to play very well at all. I suspect the game freezes due to not meeting the minimum requirements for online play.

You could try updating your DX Version and drivers?

 

I have similar options sometimes, restarting the game seems to sort it out for me tho. Cheers

i have gone through the menus on the main screen but can't see how to start up a LAN game.

You can't do a LAN game... they have not brought out any support for this however DICE did indicate a while ago there will be an SDK so hopefully, we will get the LAN option.

 

thank you. still having the same problem. will leave it for now and see about upgrading at some point.

 

Ive been having 'cant connect to server' errors on a regular basis, It appears to be random i can have 4/5 games and quit no problems but 20mins later when i just want a quick game it errors and refuses to connect.

While not the same as your problem, ive come to the conclusion that the connections side of the game is a little 'broken'.

I would have thought on lowest settings you should be able to get in a game!

 

sorry if looks like I'm hi-jacking this thread but latetly my ping seems high its never under 100 now and its the same for my mates. Has anyone else experienced this???

 

IIRC BC2 just measures ping differently to most other games (it measures the whole round-trip, not just the ping to the server. Or something like that). I've only ever seen my ping under 100 on a few occasions, but that doesn't mean it's bad.

 

Well fair enough then but I found it strange because my other games where fine, it was only BFBC2 that showed this. I guess I will read into this
