Basically I can't login to windows, it keeps telling me password incorrect. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate, I set the password when I setup my home network so I can access my files on the laptop, which all went well. Now I can log into my PC from my laptop but can't login on the pc it's weird!! saying the least. I would appreciate a little help...
You played with settings you should have not played with (you probably did not know what they really do - which is OK, because it's cool to try stuff ) Try this: Insert Windows disk in, and boot from it. Do repair Windows, and set your system to go back in time, before you did the system changes. Yes, Windows 7 allows you to go back in time of a file, folder, drive and even whole system.
All I did was to share the folders I needed data from, then add a password to the user, which by the way is the only user on the pc... There must be a way to enable administrator ---- oh prelude to this when there was no password, if I locked the pc using (Win Key + L) it wouldn't log back in unless I clicked Switch User...
Wait, you enabled TRUE administrator on your computer?! Meaning your account name is "Administrator"? If that is the case, then it's 100% normal. No one is true administrator in Vista/Win7.
http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/ This is a tool for resetting passwords. use it carefully, and read the manual if your unsure. If windows says your password is incorrect then that's what it it - be it from a typo or a password change.
The problem with this, is that if you have any encrypted file, and you don't have a backup of the certificate somewhere else, you'll lose that data for ever. I still recommend to go back in time... BTW all files in your profiles (other than desktop) isn't affected. But, I never tried it to confirm this.
@Golygus - if the password is incorrect, how is it possible I can log onto the said system from my laptop on the network?? So do you all recommend this software for resetting the password - I guess it cant hurt right!!!
Unless you're using remote desktop then the password is the original password you set for your account on the PC not the password that is for your laptop, network domain name or your network workgroup.
