    Hey guys,

Right, I've been tasked with fixing a uni friends laptop. Windows XP, fully updated, with antivirus. Trying to connect to a netgear router. Sometimes it works, others it will get an ip, discard it, then try and get one again, all within several seconds. This goes on for several minutes before either working or not working (aparently at random). I tried assigning the ip statically, and it does exactly the same thing (says it's getting an ip address and then wont connect). Other pc's will connect to the router perfectly well (both windows XP and OsX) Any ideas?

    To sum up:
    • Refreshed connection
    • Cleared address using /release /renew
    • Removed firewall
    • run antivirus
    • assigned static ip
    • tested other pcs on the network

My step tomorrow is to try it out on my home network, and if that doesn't work, reinstall, it needs it anyway!

    cheers for any ideas guys,

    RwD

Is this wired, or wireless? If it's wired, check the cable.

Reinstalling, aparently it doesn't have an ARP cache, or other useful things like that... cheers for the help.
