I have three capacitor that have blown on my mobo (This one ), Is it a simple case of finding new ones and replasing them.
well yeah kinda, you gotta be carefull the tracks on mobos are very close together. To be honest rma'ing it would be a better idea if you still have your warrenty.
I picked it up from the dump so no waranty, ill see if I have any caps lying around, if i screw it up, I screw it up.
you might want to spell capacitor correctly, otherwise people may think you;re making an capASSitor of yourself. oh! i am teh funny! (ok i'll go away now)
My only concern is that what blew them? May still be a problem 3 doesn't sound like a getting old problem. But hell if its junk worthy then shoot it up.
ROFL, My friends dad actually did repair a bunch of p3 motherboards. They worked great after. It is possible to do... nice dream catcher
Just to make sure no one thinks I buy crummy gear, I got this free from the dump, no money was spent on it.
The caps on a mobo are the every day caps you find in your local electro store. Or atleast they didn't work on my mobo, but when I desolderd caps from another mobo it work like a charm. Until I put the heatsink a little to tight on the cpu
You don't need to put it on a wall, you can repair it. I've already done it. You just need capacitors with the same capacitance (?), and same voltage or higher. Take a look here. http://forums.gideontech.com/index.php/topic,24290.0.html
I should point out for the big mobo smoothing caps you need 105ºC types, which means (in the UK) an order from RS or Farnell, with either a £25 minimum order or a swingeing delivery charge. In the UK (and USA AFAIK) you certainly won't find replacements at the local shop.
